Yesterday morning those who hap pened to be on Main street could not fail to observe a man who walked up and down tn"Tront of Watson's store, casting wishful eyes upon the display of goods on the racks. Some one called the at tention of Under Sheriff Thurman to the circumstance, and he quietly stepped in to the store to notify the cleruks. Having completed his mission he walked out the rear entrance into the alley, and to his surprise met the man face to face with a bundle unde- his arm. The stranger was taken into custody, and the bundle proved to be a pair of boots belonging to Mr. Watson. The prisoner was taken before Justice Gibb. where he gave the name of John Williams, and was sentenced to i0) days imprisonment and costs. Prior to his sentence he was very reticent. but as samin as he had heard the fate in store for him. he became very cotrnnunicative.. and informted the officer to that it was a good thing that he haO IT b:.en caught so soon. as he had intended toa do somle heavy work in town.
