REPUBUCAN TEXTS. We declare our opposition to all com binations of capital, organized in trusts or otherwise, to control arbitrarily the condition of trade among our citizens; and we recommend to congress and the state legislatures, in their respective jur isdictions, such legislation as will prevent the execution of all schemes to oppress the people by undue charges on their supplies, or by unjust rates for the trans portation of their products to market. We approve the legislation by congress to prevent alike unjust burdens and un fair discrimination between the states. Republican national platform. ",We are uncompromisingly in favor of the American system of protection; we protest against its destruction, as pro posed by the president and his party. They serve the interests of Europe; we will support the interests of America. We accept the issue, and confidently ap peal to the people for their judgment. The protective system must be maintain ed. Its abandonment has always been followed by general disaster to all inter ests except those of the usurer and the tyrant.-Thos. H. Carter's Great Falls speech. If there is a better country, one that fers better wages, fuller hopes than this, e have not found it out. Now, if that is ne, then why is it true, and how is it to continued-this condition of our coun rv? It is because, and only because we ave for years, by our protective tariff, iscriminated in favor of American man ifacturers and American workingmen. Strike down this protective system, bring our workingmen and workingwomen in equal competition in the products of their toil with those who labor abroad, and nothing is clearer than that these mills and factories must reduce wages here to the level with wages abroad, or they must shut down.-Benjamin Harrison. We have been too long subject to the policy of the British merchants. It is time we should become a little more Americanized and, instead of feeding the paupers and laborers of Europe, feed our own, or else in a short time, by continu ing our present policy, we shall be pau pers ourselves. It is, therefore, my opin ion that a careful tariff is much wanted to pay our national debt and afford us the means of thatdefense within ourselves on which the safety and liberty of our country depend-and last, though not least, give a proper distribution to our labor, which must prove beneficial to the happiness, independence and wealth of he community.-Andrew Jackson.
