The platform of the Iowa
Democracy, adopted by the
Stata Convention, held last
week, is substantially the same
platform adopted by the Dem
ocracy of Ohio and Pennsylva
nia. The Iowa Democracy
recognize tbat a change has
been effected, and have taken
a bold advance position. They
determined that they will not
fight . tlie campaigns of 1871
and 1872 upon questions which
wwe live ones only in tlie past.
The Democracy or the entire
country seem determined that
the Radicals shall no longer re
tain power by raising false is
sue3, thus preventing the peo
ple from passing judgment on
the baneful legislation of Con
press and tho corruption of
Grant's Administration.

A cloudy pillar of fire lias
descended in Illinois. Reach
ing the earth six miles west of
Mason city, it passed with slow
and cautious movement over a
space ot three miles in length
by 20 to 80 feet in width, the
very blackness of darkness
whirling, seething, and emit
ting flamy; electric discharges
like the crackling of a thousand
muskets when it suddenly
dissolved, like the baseless fab
ric of a vision ; but unlike that,
leaving 'an immense wreck be
hind. Along its whole path
way of three miles, not a stalk
of corn, not a spear of wheat,
not a blade of grass, not n
shruh, not a particle of vegeta
tion was left alive. Everything
in its track was scorched and
dried to a crisp, and in some
parts the oArtb itself was torn
to the depth of fsix inches,
live feet outside the track of
this waprecedeut cyclone, ev
erything was- fi-esh nail green.
No house, fortunately, was in
its way. If it had occurred in
tho night, it would doubtless
have had the-appearance o Cre.
Jt took place on Friday fann
ing, June- 2.
