[To be concluded.]
Read This!
The Uuited State debts,
municipal and local, exceed
$900,000,000. This, added to
the $2,350,000,000 owned by
the Federal Government,
makes our public indebtedness
$3,350,000,000. Thus, in point
ot tact,- we approach pretty
near the great debt of Great
Britain, which is nearly $3,
800,000,000 ; but the cost of
carrying the latter, in the way
of intevest, is only half a3
great as our own. We have,
therefore, in a few year?, bur
dened ourselves with a debt
far more oppressive than that
which Great Britain, with all
her wars, has run up in eight
centuries.
The father of our Preisdent
i3 disposed to be communi
cative. He told a gentleman
of our acquaintance, not long
since, that his son had become
rich. "Ulysses, said he, "l
worth half h million, and ha
has made it pretty much all by
presents."
This issov lie has refused
nothing- but tho dog-, and that
was because express charges,
were not paitt. ,' ' .,.
