Mc Arthur.'! Oct. 2. ,1875
Gen. Wra. S. Rosecrans fa
" vors the election to the IJreden-
cy of Horace Greeley. ; l ; ;
Becoming Desperate.
Grant's friends take their cue
from their Master. He Bold arms
to France to kill Germans with,
. and they were used with success
in the Franco Prussian War.
His friends '-shot and killed a
German in Richmond, Indiana,
last week iust because . he '. hur
rahed for Greeley. After all this
can a single , German, with ithe
warm feelings common to all, forJ
home, remember their vile out
rages upon their own dear Fath
erland, and then vote for Grant ?
We don t believe they will.- j .
Well Put.
"How can you support Horace
Greeley, the life long opponent
of the Democratic party ?" was
the question propounded to
Democratic voter by a supporter
of Grant.- The Democrat , re
plied, "Do, you ' consider him
honest?" "Oh, yes," answered
. the other. "Do you regard him
capable ?" "Certainly," answered
the Grant man. "Welly then,"
said the supporter of Horace; "If
you could vote in 1868 for a
drunken and incompetent Dem
ocrat, I think I can vote in 1872
for a sober honest and capable
Republican." . The Grant man
subsided. -
The government officials at;
Washington have written to the
Federal officers over the country
to. send the names of all Demo
crats in their localities who do
not take kindly to Greeley. ; The
names have been sent,, and the
Union Republican Executive
Committees are mailing all kinds
of documents to their address.
All sensible Democrats will un
derstand this. The administra
tionists are . trying to use such
Democrats to help elect Grant,
but we trust none will be so blind
as to aid in any manner to foster
the present unscrupulous admin
istration upon the people for four
years more. Protest against it
by voting for Greeley. -
This is the way Senator Hen
dricks puts it in one of his late
campaign speeches in Indiana :
"Suppose," said the Senator,"that
as. I am going to be elected Gov
ernor in October, , some citizen
should present me with his best
blooded horse. You would think
queer. Yes; but if I were to ac
cept the horse you , would think
that queerer ; but if I were to ap
point that man to a judgeship,
you would say that meant busi
ness from the beginning, Now ;
suppose that was to occur four
times in my office,' how many
votes do you expect I 'would 'get
in Jefferson ville, after having re
ceived those gifts and rewarding
xne aonorsr
The Grant party does not
hesitate at any time .to; suspend
the writ of heabas corptts; send
armed men to menace and drive
the people from the polls ; bribe
election officers and force carpet
baggers upon the people that the
Autocrat of the' White House
may wield supreme power ' over
a disfranchised and deeply
wronged people. To accomplish
this, Gen. Grant has surrounded
himself by stricksters, mounte
banks, adventurers and thieves,
who are plundering the people
of millions of dollars to influence
State elections and enrich them
selves. In the midst of all this,
uen. (RANT assumes to be the
champion of reform! Corruption
and fiscal rottepness, deep and
damning, pervade every depart
ment of the Government.' Even
leading Republicans are aston
ished and cry out against the vil
lainies of the Grant party. A
general uprising of the Deople
against these iniquities is aboui
to take place. There can be no
doubt that retribution is rapidly
approacmng. The very exis
tence of our Republican form of
government is the question at
issue. Let us rally to the polls
and vote this dangerous ' party
out of power ! V ' 1 : '
