Baltimore, Pittsburg & Chicago
For some time past the engi
neers of the Baltimore and Ohio
Railroad Company have bceji
engaged in running a series
lines between Pittsburg and Chi
cago, for the purpose of ascer
taming the shortest and mos
practicable route to the latter
city. The road, when com
pleted, is intended to be a pro
longation of what was formerly
called the Pittsburg and Con-
nellsville, but now known as the
Baltimore, Pittsburg and Chi
cago Railroad. That part of the
line between Havana, m Huron
county, 0., and Defiance county,
on the edge of the western bor

100 miles in length, having been
finally located, Mr. Randolph,
the chief engineer of the Balti
more and Ohio Railroad Com
pany, advertises for proposals for
gradation and " masonry. We
learn that the other part , of the
line, , westward to Chicago, will
also be put . under contract
shortly, and will be rapidly
.pushed to completion. A gr,eat
through road from Baltimore to
Chicago, built under the aus
pices of the Baltimore and Ohio,
and conducted with jthej ability
and enterprise that characterize
it in so remarkable a degree,
cannot fail to prove of vast ben
efit to the commercial interests
of. Baltimore. When, also, by
the construction of other railroad
links with the main trunk of the
Baltimore and Ohio, the distance
from Baltimore to Chicago will
be not only snorter tnan any
other route, but these new tnbu
taries drain large areas of terri
tory with which, at present, we
nave but indirect connection or
none at all, the traffic of the road
will be increased immensely, and
the spirit shown in extending its
ramifications will meet its just
