Proceedings Of The POLICE JURY. Parish of St. John the Bap. tist. Edgard, La., Dec. 6, 1917. The Police Jury met this day in regular session with the Aug. Lasseigne in the Chaii and the following members present: Messrs. Babin, Sor gy, Reynaiud, Cassagne and Barre. Moved and seconded that the reading of tlh minutes of the previous meeting be ap prov ed. Moved by M r. Reynaud, se conded by Mr. Songy, that the Police Jury donates th, sum of $150.CO to the Sou them States :lental Hygiene Association, Capt. O. B. Stee le, treasurer, Baton Rouge, La., Carried unanimously. Be it Resolved, Etc., That the President of the Police Jury of St. John the Baptist Parish notify the Highway Department, Board of State Engineers, that the Parish of St. John the Baptist and the Police Jury of said parish have `on hand the sum ot ninety-eight thousand one hundred forty-six 451100 ($98,146.45) dollars to be used for the construction o0 the above highway, and that the same is now on deposit with the Hibernia Bank of New-Orleans, and further quarantee to secure, if requi red, all additional funds ne cessary for the construction and completion of said high way, and in addition, further quarantee and agree to secu re by deeds of conveyance all rights-of-way that are requi red by the State Highway Department, Board of State Engineers, and by Act 49 of 1910. Be it Further Resolved, That the President of the Po-i lice Jury of St. John the Bap tist Parish notify the High way Depattment, Board of State Engineers, that said Parish of St. John the Bap' - ist has in addition to the nine ty-eight thousand one hun dred forty-six and 451100 (98,146.45) dollars construc fund, hereinabove mention.:', to be used in the construc tion of the New-Orleans---Ba ton Rouge Highway the sum 'f $------which sum is deri ved from the=---tax, which for the year 1918 will yield $---. This fund will be applied to the maintenance of the New Orleans-Baton Rouge High way. Be it Further Resolved, Etc. rhat the President of the Police Jury of St. Johni the i3aptist Parish, State o i Lou isiana, make formal request upon the State Highway De partment, Board of State Engineers, to proceed to, as *soon as possible, prepare form of contract, plans and specifications and advertise the above mentioned high way and invite sealed propo sals for the construction thereof. Be it Further Resolved, Etc. That the President of the Po lice Jury of St. John the Bap tist Parih, A. Lasseigne, or his succesor, be and he is hereby instructed, authorized and empowered to sign, make end execute contract for the =onstruction of the above mentioned highway wi. h thie State of Louisiana, through the Highway Department, Board of State Engineers and the Federal Government, through the Department of Agriculture, Office of Public Roads and Rural Engineer ing and to do any and all thains necessary in the pre minses. Mrs. Fernand Webre, (nec j Marie Louise Granier) diec at her home in Garyville, thi s parish, on Thursday, Decem t ber 28th, 1917, after an illness - of brief duration and way - buried the following day ii - the St. John Cemetery at Ed gard, La., t Elaborate funeral services r were conducted at the St t John the Baptist Church. Reverend Father Theo phile Stenmans officiating. Deceased was married a lit tle ovr a year ago and leaves a sorrowing husband and a little infant daughter. The funeral was largely at ) tended. To the bereaved and grief stricken ones Le Meschacebe proffers its sympathy at this dark moment of life. CHURCH NOTES. Quatre membres furent re lus comme aspirantes. Une belle ceremonie eut lieu Dimanche a l'cglise St. Jean Baptiste, / l'occasion de la communion ginerale de la societe du Tres Saint Nom. La nouvelle baniere fut bi nie avant la procession et la messe. Le choeur paroissial executait des motets appro pries et malgre le temps froid la soci6te etait tres bien re p6sentee. Dans l'apres-midi 6 jeunes candidats furent recus avec les c&remonies du Rituel. La societe du Tres Saint Nom fait beaucoup de bien dans la paroisse. Dimanche le 13 Janvier apres la grade messe il-y aura elec tion des officiers de la societe La Ligne du S. Coeur fair toujours des progres et les zilatrices s'acquittent bien de leur devoir.
