Church of St. John the Baptist. FATHER KENNY RENDERS AN ACCOUNT OF IIIS STEWARDSHIP. 3i It is not yet quite a year since Rev. Thos. J. Kenny was transferred from the pastorate of ev St. Theresa's Church to that of the Church of St. John the Baptist in this city. In thisbiief as season more general disaster has visited busi- th ness in all its branches than in any other season in the history of our city. Yet it has y' been providentially decreed that no season should be more agreeably noted for the bri' liancy of its exhibit of results reached S through the exertions of a zealous priest for ti the deliverance of one of God's temples from, the bondage of a wdrldly ownership. A parochial committee, instituted for the purpose, is consulted and advised with. by the Fathers before action is taken upon any matter of temporal weight requiring the co-operation of the congregation for the execution of the work proposed. The sessions are held in the priest's house. The pastor requires that the committee's secretary take note of all mone3 5 received or expended, and keep carefully lr, served a detailed record of all business ques tions brought up for discussion. At a meeting the other evening a summing up of the year's finances was had with an as tonishingly encouraging result. The showing is as follows: Aggregate of sums donated to or borrowed by the pastor, $2,822. Revenue from the church, $8,799 35. Total, $37,G21 35. Thus, then, has the'debt of St. John's pariah been reduced by Father Kenny's exertiotu in less than a year to the extent of thirty-eren thousand, six hundred and twenty one dollars and thirty.fire cents. A marvellous achievement this, in face of the difficulties which had to be met and surmounted. Among the donations is in cluded the sum of two thousand dollars, a legacy willed to Father Kenny, personally, by the late Thomas McKenua. Thus it is seen that in addition to the self denial practiced by the Fathers of St. John's, they forego the right of drawing their salaries, and also put their own private fortunes at the disposal of the committee for the good of the parish and of the Archdiocese. To meet an obligation maturing toward the end of the current year a Fair is to be held in It. Patrick's Hall under rules of management that shall cause the effectual removal of any obnoxious features unwittingly permitted in the conduct of some Fairs. Twenty Years Ago.
