Ing of the new first-class battleship Al- Mon. of 12.950 tons, at Blackwell. by the Duchess of York, a ceremony at which the United States ambassador, Colonel John Hay and Mrs. Hay and Lieutenant Colonel Well, the United States naval attache, assisted, the dis placement of water caused an Immense mass of water to rise on all Bides, com pletely submerging one cf the lower stages of the yard and Immersing hun dreds of reorle. BIG DAY FOR ILLINOIS. Entire City of Omaha In Turned Over to the Sucker. Omaha, Neb., June 22. Not only the exposition but the whole city belongs to the people of Illinois, who are her? celebrating the participation of their state in the big trans-MissIssiprl en terprise. Their colors are everywhere In evidence, and the entire day is being devoted to their entertainment and the elaborate ceremonies which accompany their visit. No one has been able to even approximately estimate the num ber of lllinoisans who are the guests of Omaha, but it is sufficient to make the occasion memorable. There are prob ably ten thousand citizens of the sucker state present. It was within a few minutes of noon when the Illinois building was formally presented by Chairman Harper of .the Illinois commission to the authorities of the exposition. The dedication was concluded amid the cheers of several thousand people, the waving of flags and the strains of a number of bands. Though the building is next to the larg est state building on the grounds, so great was the crowd that the dedicatory exercises were held in the auditorium. The "Tribe of Scribes." Marquette, Mich.. A party of Chicago artists and authors have Incor porated a club here, "The Tribe of bcrlbes, and has made arrangements tc purchase a sixty-acre club site on the lake shore twenty miles above here. The mill Is one cf the largest In south ern Wisconsin, having a capacity of 2'0 barrels an hour. It Is located In the factory district of the city, and for a time It was feared that a whole section of the town would be wiped out. Th fire department did good work, and suc ceeded in preventing the blaz. s spread- ing to any of the adjoining buildings. The mill was burned to the ground. and the loss wnl be over $."0,000, partial ly covered by insurance. Axftuuirt Her Maiden Name. Chicago, June 22. Judge Rail has signed the decree which allows Mrs. Colin C. Manning, daughter of Chief Justice I uller of the United States su. prerne court, to become Miss Marv Coolbaugh Fuller. The document was prepared several days ago after Mrs. Manning's attorneys had filed an amended bill, withdrawing charges of drunkenness against her husband, and was In readiness for the Judge's sitr. nature when he arrived at the court. Rush of Savannah, Ga., shot and fatally wounded his father-in-law, George De wltt. the result of a quarrel. A movement has been started in the Knoxvllle, Tern., region to force the coal operators to Increase wages after July 1. F. O. Darlington, general superinten dent of the Indianapolis division of the Pennsylvania lines, has resigned. The grocery store of John Ratcllff at Muncle, Ind., was destroyed by fire, te rtian. Just after the reading of the senate Journal Senator Roach arose to a question of privilege and denied an Interview with him pub lished in an evening paper which de clared that he was In favor of annexa tion and was willing to stay here all summer or until a vote had been reached.
