Personal. —The Democratic nom inee for County Treasurer, Mr. Charles Hillman, is one of the proprietors of the great German Brewery, of this city, and in all respects a very worthy young man, but would have no more use for the County Treasurership than a frog has for pockets, and if elected, (of which he has no appre hensions,) he would bo situated much like the man v,ho drew the elephant. Mr. John Milton left our city yesterday, for La Crosse, where he will make Bis fu ture home. He goes there to engage *ni the Hardware business, with his son-in-law, Mr. “Hcut” Tramkl. Mr. Milton has boon a resident of Mineral I’oint for 82 years, and his departure creates a vacancy in the ranks of the oldest settlers that must long be apparent. Wo wish him every success and happiness in his new Dome. Mr. L. 0. Sandciwok, of Moscow, Repub lican candidate for Register of Dt-eds, fav ored us with a call one day last week. This was our first acquaintance with Mr. S., and a few minutes’ conversation satisfied us of his qualification for any county oflice. Tin-: Racks iu this city last week, were not so largely attended as many ex pected. Like 100 many races, these were strongly characterized hy jockey lain, kew who attended were so blind as not to see that the f.utrst horse did not always win. Ross' horse, Canada, ran In only one race, which ho won w ith ease. On Friday, du ring the last race, in which three horses were running, one of the riders was thrown, a foul was claimed, and a general hub-bub created about tho judges stand, which promised at first to result in a general row, hut was finally quieted. A ;reat amount of drinking was done, and considerable betting. One or two fights ocurred, and several nipped in the bud. The committee on resolutions then pre sented the following : Resol ml, That it is inconsistent for pro fessidly Temperance men to nominate and support for public otlices, those who are professidly opposed to the Temperance re form. A'lWml, That we strike from all tickets, at the ballot box, the names of all persons who are not professidly in lavor of the Temperance reform, and support only those who are known to bo temperance men. Resolved, That in view of the limited time in which the temperance people have had to work in the precent political cam paign, that wo deem it inexpedient to make nominations for the several offices to ho filled at the county election, for the reason that it would be impossible to present the temperance issue to the people in such a niamier as to be understood as temperance people understand it; but bo it further Re soloed, That at all future municipal and general elections wo will present to the people of lowa County a ticket composed of strictly Temperance men, and insist up on its support by the suttVages of the peo ple, as opposed to any and all other tickets, embracing men who are opposed to the Temperance reform. Resolved, That the vote on the two last resolutions bo taken by ayes and nays. Which wore taken up seperately and adopted excepting the 4th, relative to fu ture political action.
