A NEW MOVE.
The Bell. Water Company will Put
Pumps on the Artesian Wells.
Waco's reputation at the Geyser
City it about to suffer from indisoro
tion in drilling wells iu the lower part
of tho city. When Captain Bell after
years of experiments and many thous
ands of dollars has succeeded in strik
ing the great underground stream of
hot water Waco arose and shouted for
joy. A question which had vexed
the people for years had bocn
solved. The fair Central City,
had not only been blessed with an
abundance of pure water, but that
sauio wator had been permeated by
nature with health-giving properties
which in a few short years gavo Waco
a national reputation of being the.
healthiest city of its size in the world.
Waco continued to prosper and tho
hot health-giving stream was tapped in
numeoous places on the heights in the
western suburbs of tho city. The hot
water was piped all over tho city.
Everything was prosperous and flour
ishing until a well was
drilled in tho lower
part of the city. Any ono having only
tho slightest acquanintanoo with hy
draulios need not be told that tho
drilling of suoh a well could only have
the effect of decreasing tho flow of
thoso on the hills When a pump
having a capacity of 2,000,000 or
3,000,000 gallons per day was attach
ed to tho well the offoct was more
marked. Soon aftor tho first well was
drilled a second of very large calibre
was drilled followed shortly by a third
and in a low days a fourth well was
added to the list.
This will entail a great Iosb on tho
Boll Water company.
This company has used tho direot
pressure system and has no engines
and pumps. As its stand pipes are on
the hills and the pressure is becoming
bo weak that the wells thoro will not
fill them it is a patent fact that tho
oompany will hayoto put in pumps.
YeBterday afternoon there was a

pany and it was deoided to put in
pumps. Before this is done howover,
an expert hydraulioenginoor will make
a thorough survey of the situation and
if possiblo effeot a plan by which suoh
a move could bo avoided if possible.
There is just as muoh water under
ground as thoro over was, tho bad part
of the whole affair boing tho tapping
of tho vein in tho lower part of the
city and decreasing, if not entirely
stopping tho flow of tho wells on the
hills.

Washington, April 26. The house
spent the entire time yesterday in fili -busting
on the question of striking
from the Record tho speech of Mr.
Walker of Massachusetts. This
speech was an attack on the mug
wumps of his state and was rather
more ridiculous than anything else.
The republicans did tho filibustering,
They oared nothing for the point in
issue, but thought they had tho dem
ocrats in a hole, where perhaps Crisp
would have to recognize them sitting
in their seats silent and count thern
as going to make up a quorum. They
did not vote and there was a quorum
present all tho time. There was no
quorum voting, however, and none
could be produced.
All the New York democrats from
New York were about with tho excep
tion of two. They were all here last
week when tho Noyes vs Rockwell
cose was up, and being forced to re
main so long they were tired and got
away as soon as that case was thiough.
It is very hard for New York repro
sentatatives in congress to remain
around the house for a longer time
than a day or two
Senator Coke gave notico to the
senate today that he would address
that body on silver tomorrow. He is
an ardent free silver man, and it looks
as if there was an agreement among
tho free silver senators, even if a free
coinage bill cannot get through con
gress, to keep tho question before the
country. lie will be followed by other
senators who favor free coinago and
speeches in this line will doubtless be
delivered till the ond of this session.
