about water works somo about

about good lands some about win

San Antonio has been asked to
join with Aransas Pass inran effort
to secure deep water at the latter
place San Antonio is to raise
S 100000 for that purpose payable
six months after twenty feet of wa
ter has been secured in the chan
nal It is to be hoped San Anto
nio will raise tho required amount
and deep water will bo secured
In speaking of the improvement
of tho public school system One
good step would be to elect
trustees not oftener than
every two years or elect one new
one each year and let the one who
has served three years retire And
another step would be to arrange
the finance so that teachers can
get their pay at tho end of each
month
Lampasas merchants are almost
unanimous in saying tho railroad
commission has not effected their
freight rates Twenty of the mer
chants say they can see no change
Seven merchants say their freight
rates aro higher than before the
commission Four say their rates
aro a little lower than before and
five 6ay their rates in the state are
lower and outside tho state higher
than before the commission
If there is any good to be deriy

time it was showing up

Llano New3 in speaking of the
little Llano river say the San
Saba is the prettiest stream in
Texas or when darned will be the
finest body of water for sailing
bathing or fishing in all America
or that it is one of the most beau
tiful rivers in the world But O
my such unwarrantable exager

The Dallas conference of Simon
pure Jefferson Democrats met
Feb 10 It was made up largely
of farmers who appear to boannit
in favor of the subtreasury the
alien land law and an elective
state railroad commission and op
posed to Gov Hoggs anministra
tion opposed to Mills for U S
Senator and against either of the
presidential candidate at present
before tho people against national
banks and in favor of free coinage
Tho Gazette calls them the Simon

thebottla democrats
There aro some who say they
would contribute to the fair fund
but that they prefer to wait until
the railroad question is settled
As for that tho railroad question
is already settled but as a safe plan
tis never best to do any thing rash
Let ns raise the required amount
and have it ready and so far as lo
cating tho fair wo can afford to act
in accordance with the majority of
voters or share holdors Tho only
question to be decided is can San
Saba raise the money Get the
required amount first then settle
the rest afterwards Come on and
say how much yon will give Every
man who deals in horses hogsjcat
tle sheep goats or who runs a
farm should subscribe to the fair
fund Dont stand back but come
on and raise tho money then meet

Dr Wollcy nnliko a great many speci
