An ordinance is now before the
Board of Mayor and Aldermen of
MeMinnville granting to Dr. J. M.
Burger a franchise for a system of
water works. We do not know of
any enterprise which would be of
greater benefit to our town, and
everybody should encourage the
movement by all possible means.
The benefits and advantages of a
thorough system of water works will
be incalculable. Not only would it
be convenient as a water supply for
domestic purposes, street sprinkling,
and other uses, but the matter of pro
tection against fire and reduction of
insurance rates will be a most import
The bill provides that work shall
be commenced in three months, and
the system completed in twelve
Dr. Burger iuforms us that if the
franchise is granted by the Board, no
time will be lost in pushing the wa
terworks to competition. We be
lieve the Board should and will
grant a liberal franchise, and we hope
soon to see the work under, construe
