Ingersoll & Peyton, of Knoxville, with regard to putting in a water works plant at McMinnville, men tion of which was made through these columns at the time. Mr, Car son received a letter from Messrs. Ingersol & Peyton a few days ago, from which we take the following paragraph : "One day last week, we started Mr. E. II.'Burlingame, a professional hy draulic Engineer, to your city for the purpose of examining your water supply and location of your streets, so that he might determine whether it would pay his company to con struct water work9 for your people. On reaching Tullahoma Mr. Burlin- gaine was informed that the city of McMinnville whs so much in dvbt that it could not stand additional taxa tion for the purpose of paying water rentals, and therefore did not call on you. The information re ceived by him may have been erone- ous. If it turns out that your city is able to pay water rentals, and is will ing to pay a reasonable sum for that purpose, we will send Mr. JJurlin game back to see you, or send some other Hydraulic Engineer." Never in the his tory of McMinnville has it had one dollar of bonded indebtedness, at the present it has not a penny of floating debt, but on the other hand has money in bank to its credit, with a goodly sum of yet uncollected taxes. Every street in the town is well graveled from one extremity of the corporate limits to the other, and the business portion of the town is well lighted all night with electric lights. We have a system of city schools un surpassed by any other town in Ten nessee, which are open ten months in the year. (The colored school has been suspended during the last ses sion on account of the destruction of the building by fire, but a new build ing will be erected during the com ing summer, and the city treasury will have the cash to pay for it.) There are some people at Tullaho ma, we know not who they are nor do we care to know, who seem to make it their special business to watch at the depot there for strangers enroute to McMinnville, and use ev ery means in their power to prevent them lrom coming here, and they scruple at no falsehood or misrepre sentation to accomplish this object. They never approach any one who has ever been to McMinnville, and knows anything of the place, know ing that with such persons their tis sue of lies would avail nothing. Our sprightly neighbor, Tullaho ma, deserves much credit for its con tinued growth under many discour aging circumstances. The place has many enterprising, public spirited citizens who are an honor to the town, but it has some idling, busy body liars who bring reproach and injury upon their own town by the methods they pursue toward MC' Minnville. Messrs. Ingersoll A Peyton may send on another engineer, but we ad vise them to flnd'ti man for the next trip who is not soft enough to believe anything he hears at Tullahoma re garding McMinnville. Tribute of Respect. Whereas, It has pleased the om nipotent Grand Master to call from earthly labor to eternal refreshment the soul of our beloved brother, Mortimer Augustus Doty, the acting Tyler of his lodge, and Whereas, During the greater por tion of his life and unto the time of his death his love for the order of Free and Accepted Masons and prac tice of the generous and glorious prin ciples of the same, has been a lesson to his surviving brethren, and Whereas, His brethren of War ren Lodge No. 125, do deeply and sincerely deplore his loss, and truly und tenderly cherisn his memory, therefore Be it Itesolved, 1, That we accept this visitation of sorrow with bowed hearts and spirits, resigned to the will of our Heavenly Father who doetli all things well. 2, That we cherish his memory as a dutiful, zealous and faithful man and Mason, prompt in the execution of every duty and true to the glorious teachings of our mystic ritual. 3, That our Tyler's sword, the im plement he honorably carried by pro tempore oppointment for so many years under circumstances to be fully appreciated only by members of the lodge, be draped in mourning and that we, his brethren, wear the usual badge of sorrow for 3 days. 1, That our tenderest sympathy and sincere condolence are hereby tendered to the sorrow stricken fami ly whose hearts are crushed with this great bereavement. 5. That a corv of these resolutions be spread upon the minutes of the ALBERT SEITZ, lodge, a copy furnished his family, and that a memorial page in our min ute book, suitably ornamented and en grossed, be dedicated to his memory.
