( ! j I ! ! ; j FARMERS' SCHOOL AT IDAHO FALLS■ Every person Interetsed in farming is familiar with the old styled farm ers' institute, and every one acquaint ed with this form of studying the problems arising In connection with up to date farming has recognized the defects of and the objections to the farmers' institute. Thta year the Agricultural College of the State University at Moscow determined to put into operation in Idaho the plan that has remedied the defects and obviated the objection to this method of getting before the farmers better methods and solving local difficulties. This plan is the so calletd farmers school. Under this plan a session df two weeks Is to take the place df the cub'comary three days meeting of the past. During this time there will be daily, a forenoon, afternoon and even ing program, consisting of lectures, problems connected with the farm and orchard, the dairy and the poul try yard. Under this plan there will be sufficient time given to each topic to go some what thoroughly into the subject and to allow cf 1 thorough dis cussion by the lecturer and those in attendance. Owing to the fact that.this plan has not before been tried in Ida ho, the state college .selected 1 a few of the most convenient centers and, will hold th^ sessions at these points* Idaho Falls is one of the five points in Idaho where this school will be heldl this, yeaçv V" r OsW? $***'.* ■ The Agric^tuftir. corfège of* IjAth is cooperating ^ith jtf&at of-Iddho in /this plan $ii'd yim this jriaiHter.-ithe two schools have been enabled to secure the best of talent in the way df lecturers and demonstrators for ttyls course. J.-A. gla^eo-at ,<the jproj gram will assure any One df thé Ex cellence of the working force. Owing to the limited amount of., funds available for farmers' ' insti tute werk this year the colleges find it necessary to lock to the local schools for seltne of the expense money fox carrying 9n this work. With this in view the nominal fee of two , dollars fob -the entire coursé of two wçeks, twënty five cents for each full days' session and tèn cents for a single forenoon, afternoon or evening session, will be chargé edf the funds so derived t» be .used in paying thé expenses' of the'var ious lecturers and demonstrators .who will Lave the work in charge. Every effort is beingmade both by the local association oif Idaho Falls and 'by the state college of Agricul ture to make .this course orieof great benefit to the farmers who shall at tend-: ,-Th© sessions will be held in the club of commerce rooms and dem onstrations in stcckjudging will be held in one of the ample stables near the center of-the town. BEETS FIVE DOLLARS PER TON > By D. H. Bietbao When wheat can be sold from $1.50 to $2.00 per hundred and hats the same: hay from $6 to $10 per ton and there is a big price for potatoes, and only $4.50 per ton for beets I would not advise any friend of mine to grow sugiar beets, although consid ering] the advantage to the landl and er advantages I would hesitate to say grow sugar beets. But n'ow with grain at about 100 and the likelihood of it going still lower, hay a drug on the market at $4.00 and $5.00 and beets lat $5.00 it seems to me that bit few farmers ecu afford net to .go into beet raising. In raising grain you never know what ycu will get and the same with hay. Beets you know just how much : and when you get your money regard ! less of marke 1 ;. Beets make one of ( the best rotary corps, improving the ! quality cif te land. There are several j advantages in raising beets ever raising potatoes. Potato prices are I uncertain, sometimes, as in 1909, po ! tatoes were unsaleable at any price. ! hate frost ini the spring and early frosts In the tell greatly damage po ; tatoe crops while doing but little in jury to beets. When hard frests come j early as they some times do potatoes are made worthless or are greatly damoged, making a great deal of ex tra work sorting, etc. while beets are net damaged at all. Having a sugar factory running to which your tend is tributary greatly e chance the value elf your land. Thou sands of tens cf ha y are in con nection with the pulp making the re mainder more valuable. It' gives a home market for butter, eggs, milk chickens, pork, etc., as thé hundreds of employee must eat. It builds up the town to which you go to sell your produce and the larger such towns are the more desirable ydur farm is to live en or to sell if you should desire to sell. Yen cannot expect to meetwlth suc cess in raising beets unless you have the right kind of land. The field su perintendent ct the factory will tell you all clbout this. Any farmer should put in from 5 acres up wiih beets especially since beete are $5.00 and I believe that in a short time thé Blackfoot factory will have as CANDIES For The Holiday Trade We have just received the most complete line of Candies ever displayed in Blackfoot, consist ing of Lowney's and Woodwerds Chocolates, and an exceptionally fine line of Pail Candies. A. HAYES many contracts as they caqhandle and the farmers who are. slow making ) ^heir minds will net be able to lake contracts 'at all. Beets at $5 with grain low as it^ïà going to be is going to be one of tfie best crops for Bingham county farmers. S' Thé difference between beets at $4.50 and $5.00 will pay a fair inter est on $100 per acre land. Think this, over and then act quickly or you may ^ot tie ahlè toÆontiapt at all. j For the Benefit of the Race. "For goodness' sake, child, what are you doing with your father's fishing outfit?
