The Swiss Bell Ringers will appear at the Me lodeon on Saturday and Monday evenings. The peculiarity and sweetness of this music never faiis U attract the lovers of the novel and beautiful. Thanks. We are indebted to A. Van Swear ,scen of the firm of Sexton, Seal & Swearingen, Philadelphia, for his polite attentions in supply ing us with late and interesting papers. 1 Improving.?The cars arrived yesterday evening at 20 minutes past 5 o'clock, with about 100 pas sengers. A little more lime will settle the track thoroughly and enable the Company to make ar rivals and depaitures punctually at stated houis.1^ The Twos. Swann is advertised to leave for Lou isville on Saturday next. Yesterday steam was raised in the boiler supplying the 'doctor.' which worked well. This separate and distinct boiler for the purpose of generating steam for the 'doc tor,' is a lie., feature, peculiar to the Swann, and isnottheonly new feature which will elicit the 'astonishment* and admiration of the 'people of Louisville when this noble stea ner gets there. The Richmond Dispatch is denouncing Whee ling as the spoiled child of Virginia, and advoca : ting the right of way for the Pittsburgh and Steu benville Road. The Dispatch may think it is ac ting a loyal pari, but a little further examination would convince it that it is coalescing with Hie -< worst enemy the State of Virginia ever had to con I tend against. Confession- ofMuruer.?The Louisville papers state that Joseph Simmons, a young man who late ly resided in Ohio county Va., nine miles from Wheeling, has lieen arrested at Louisville, char ged with the murder of two men, named Park and Coffuian, on a flat boat on the Tensas river, Louisiana. It i? said that he has made a confes sion. stating that he committed the murder with a sledge hammer, while the two men were asleep. The sum of S2.-100 in money, a revolver, and a bowie knife covered with blood, were found on his person. The Bridge and Depot.?The work at the De pot of the B.& O. Railroad in this city, has been progressing steadily lor several weeds past, al .though the weather has been extremely unfavora ble. Opetations have also been resumed on the permanent work of the creek bridge, the water having receded. At the meeting of the Council on Tuesday even ing, the Company was gianted permission to land passengers on the south side of the creek. This will not only occasion some improvements in the streets of that portion of the city, but will enable the work o I the bridge and Depot to proceed with less interruption than it has heretofore encounter ed. A Squib which we published some days since, ?ititled 'Compromising,' was clipped from the I'arkersburgh Gazette, ami wte should have given that paper credit for it, had we not supposed that we had previously seen it in a Cincinnati paper. It seems, however, that we were mistaken and that the wittyscintellationemanated from ourneighbor, who will please except the assurance that we con sider him a 'scholar and a gentleman' who is en titled to the free use of our telegraphic dispatches or any thing else we have, a$ long as he pleases, without credit. We trust this will be the last year for caricature - -"Valentines." The Boston Carpet Bag, after ex aming a lar^e assortment, concludes that the "ar tists" have been sitting for their own portraits.? I We got one yestetday, the stupidity of which is i unrivalled?except by the lellow who invested a : half-dime in its purchase.?Pittsburg Dispatch. Pshaw, man! You shouldn't talk this way.? ; people will think those "stupid" things made you mad. Do as we did?sell them, and console your self on the speculation, and with the idea that a man without aneuemy is just nomaa at all. McLure House.?The Cincinnati Gazette has the following well deserved notice of this house: O'The McLure House, Wheeling, is now open for visiters, and from the description of it, we are satisfied that this house will be, as it is designed to be, one of the best in the country. No expense has been spared to adapt the house in its arrange ments, which have beeu made as perfect as possi ble. Those having charge of the house are fully competent, and it has been furnished and supplied in the best manner. Wheeling has long beexi one of the places where an unusual number of travel lers have stopped, and it has for many years needed a first class hotel. It will be a source of great gratification to travelers, to be informed of the es tablishment of this house. Job I? PUBLICATION. In July, 1851, my brother undertook, solicited by the singing school which consists of cliuich members, ana which has the direction or the singing of the sacred hymns in church, the playing of the melodeon, which accompa nies the singing duiing divine service or the St. Jacob's congregation. He supposed naturally, that the communi ty would allow him such a compensation tar the troublo which his task lequired, as tney had done beforo to Mr. Greinor, who undertook it only on the same terms. But, when my brother went to the president ol the church, a little belorc his departure rrom here, demanding said com pensation, he received the reply that the trustees must first give their consent. My brother did not fail to go again and ask what i he result ol their convention had been, and to inform him tnat 1, to whom a similar request had already beet, made, wouid not play after his departure if no re compense was to tallow; upon which the president of the church answered that the trustees hadagrecd to allow him as well lor the past, as me for the future, a recompense lor our trouble; but, that there was at present no money on hand, and that he had therefore to wait tar the payment, until the money should come in. The same declaiation the piesid -nt made, a iittle alter this, to my lather; and the same declaration my rather also received from the secre tary of the church- Since that time, 4lugust, 1852, 1 have played the meioileou regularly, but neither me nor my brother have received the smallest reward tar our trouble, though, since that time, there must have come in money enough to pay such a small amount.' on the contrary, the president has now, upon a renewed inquiry, replied to me with harsh words, that tbecongiegatioii had now resolved to give us nothing, and that .t was impudent from me to demand payment for our trouble, as there was not money enough on hand?scarcely enough tJ pay my father, their minister. Surely! a fitting behavior to tallow the events, which liave formerly taken place in the temple or tuiscom munity! After this it is no wonder that their former min ister, Rev. Zimmerman, has giveu them such a memorial in: he German paper or this city, about two years since, as he has done! Sua me on every body who withholds from ycung men, as we are, in such a manner, their hon estly deserved reward; who uses their faithlulness in them, to deceive them afterwards; ihen our whole oirensu consists in nothing else, but not to have made a contract with them, and not to have taken notes tar security. May therefore every one take a warning in this?may every one never trust such people farther, as they can with legal se curity! ABOLPH KROEGER. Wheeling, Feb lGth, 1S53, Clover and Timothy seed! House? The House did nothing yesrerday but debate in regard to the causes which have delayed the business of the session. Mr. Venable contended that the delay was the fault of the rules, and advocated their repeal.? Others said the delay was owing to the rules not being strictly observed. Mr. Stephens said the fault was in the character of the menders, when legislators should be sent here instead of demagogues, the difficulty would be avoided. Adjourned. The Post-office appropiiation bill was taken up and pafsed. The Canadian reciprocity bill was postponed until to-nior. ow for examination. The House went into Committee of the Whole. Mr. Bailey took the floor and spoke in reference to the obstruction of business. The House after wuiting some time in this way, adjourned. Senate? The Chair laid before the Senate the report of i he board of^jofficers appointed to survey a route for a canal around the Falls of the Ohio. The deficiency bill was taken up, and along de bate ensued on the proposal to strike out the pro vision to pay three thousand dolars salary to the clerk of the Census Bureau, instead of $2,500. A bitter onslaught was made on him by Messrs. Walker and Davis, relative to the cost of the cen sus?costing over $200,000, and now more asked for. A motion to take up the Deficiency bill was re jected. The debate was resumed and a subse quent motion carrie-l?yeas 38, noes not counted. HJAn amendment adopted requiring that no more of the appropriations for the Capital extension should be paid until the 1st of April, so shat the Committee of Investigation, to which the question of frauds had been referred, might conclude their labor. The Deficiency bill was then passed. The resolutions relative to the right of way across the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, was taken up. Mr. Brooks spoke in favor of the resolutions. New Patent Premium SAFETl" KAMI'S, AND Patent Pho?*ueue 4?xim, FOR BURNING IN T II K SAME. 77k is Lamp, for producing a portable Light, is confidently recommended a* superior to any other notr in we. rilllE LIGHT is produced by the burning or an aeriform X Gas, which is emitted in bcautifa! jets from small per forations in Platina. The Gas is generated as itisu?ed, by the heat of its own combustion acting on the burner, connected with the Liquid in the Lamp- Thus it is a perfect and portable apparatus for cieatirg and burning aeriform Gas. Itsronstruc'.ion is such, that all possibility of ncciderl I rom its use is cnt'rely removed; and the great simplicity o1 i ts arrangement renders it less liable to get out of orderthar any other kind of Lamp. It requires no cleaning and trim, ming, as do the Oil and Camphene Lamps, and burns equallt well, either with or without a glass globe or shade, and per fectly free from smoke or odor.
