THE Work of plastering the offices of the Rail tjai Depot with cement, was commenced yester ijjy. This cement is manufactured in Cumber 1ml, and as it has been very difficult tc get such an article as will withstand the sulphur, or some other peculiarity in our atmosphere, our citizens will lie afforded an opportunity of testing the Cum berland hydraulic cement. The River.?The late rains were sufficient to raise the river some nine inches. Yesterday il l was again receding with about 35 inches in the channel. The light draft boats got along quile well. The errs arrived yesterday in good time, and Capt. A. Johnston's fine new low water Union Line boat, Atalanta, left with a very respectable numberof passengers. Patriotic? We observed on tbe Fourth a very tall pole on the river bank at the lower part of the city, surmounted by a miniature locomotive and a splendid national flag. It was at the le pairing station of the B. & O Railroad, and we learn that it was erected by the mechanics, con ductors, clerks, and others in the employ oftlie Company, who taised among themselves a sub scription of 5130 for the purpose. We know of no liody of men more public spirited, liberal and clever than these same persons. V."e suffered considerable inconvenience yes terday. The water being shut off Iroin the city pipes, we found it difficult to supply the boiler of our steam-en. ine. In a case of this kind our cit izens ^eueully suffer a temporary evil for a pub lic good?the cleansing of the basin?though few are situated like a newspaper office, 11s all manu facturing establishments supplied by .the city pip-sstop, as a matter of course, w hen the Water Works stop, but a newspaper would be scarcely cxcused fcr its non-appearance though the river were to dry up, or an etrthquake were to swallow the town. Better Lite than Never.?The Pittsburgh Gazette makes the following correction of the statement which it published some time ago, that the passenger train between Baltimore and Wheel ing occupied 28 hours in making the passage. We staled the other day that the time occupied in passing fioin Wheeling to Baltimore was *2& Lorus. \Ve are unable to name speciiically the authority for our statement, but we found it as we gave it, in some paper published iu the neighbor hw.il ol Wheeling. The Baltimore American says thai the schedule time, between those two points is I'J hours, and that th sis rar ly exceeded. We accept the correction of the American, but with tbeassurai.ee to that respectable paper that if we l?rd not thought our authority reliable for the Ma;enieut it refers to, we should uot have pub lished it. Tor beautifying, curling, presnrv ing, restoring, @ strengthening the hair, relb ving diseases or the skin, curing rheumatic pains, and healing external wounds. Bounded by no geographical lines, the reputa tion or Barry's tricopherous pervades the Union. The sales of the article of late years have increased in a ratio that almost exceeds belief. Professor Barry, after a care ful examination or his sales book, fiud9 that the ntmber of bottles delivered to order in quantities orrrom hair a gross upwards, duriug the year 18G2, was within a trifle of 950, 000. It is unnecessary to present at length the evidence or the wonderful properties of the tricopherous when the public have rurnished such nn endorsement as this. The cheap, ness or tbe-art cle, and the explanations given or its chem. ical action upon the hpir, the scalp, and in ail cases or su perflcial irritation, first recommended it to the attention or the people. This was all that the inventor desired. Ev ery bottle advertised itseir. The effects or the fluid exceed ed expectation- It acted like a charm. The Indies would not be without it. Country dealcss in every ?ectionofthe Un'ted States round they must have it} and thus was built up a wholesale trade or an extent hitheito unheard or as regards articles or this kind.
