Care has been taken to avoid everything which should be reserved for the more advanced pupil. The maps have only the principal features delineated and hence can be easily studied. The lessons are copiously illustrated with appropriate engravings. Modern School Geography. Designed for that very large class of pupils in our schools who wish to learn the more Im portant facts of Geography, but have not time to consult the more elaborate treatises. In this book great pains have bees taken, l y copious cxhrcises, to make the pupil thorough^ acquainted with the mop#, and familliar with localities. It also contains, in a condensed form, all that is giveu in the "American School Geography," and is a complete icork in it*tlf. American School Geography. An elaborate work, design ed for pupils who wish to become familliar with the details of Geography. The maps are full and reliable, according tt recent surveys and explorations, and are engraved on steel, in the finest style of the art; the lessonsaresultably illustra ted; and everything Is embraced which should be found in an advanced work upon Geography. Characteristics ok TnE Mats.?The maps of the entire se ries are drawn upon a uniform system of scales, so that, by comparing them, the relative sice of the different Countries and States will be seen at a glance, This cannot be done with any other geographies now In use. Should you make the trial, you will find the map of the Eastern States upon one scale; Xew York, etc. upon another; Virginia, a different and smaller one still; Georgia, Florida, etc., another; and so throughout the book?uo two maps being upon exactly the same scale. ALLEN, late Professor in the Ohio College of Den tal Surgery, invites attention to his highly Improved method of constructing Artificial Dentures, which combine i the following advantages: ! 1. There are no seams or crevices for the lodgment of food I to vitiate the snllva or infect the breath, ns not even tlio I slightest moisture can get between tlie teeth and plate. 2. An Artificfal Gum, which is us firm and indestructible as i the teeth, is fused at u high heat between and around their | base, which unites, them to each other und to the plate upon ! which they are set. This gum imparts to the teeth that pe ! euliar expression und life-like appearance which churactcrize the natural organs. | y. Great strength is obtained by thus uniting the teeth ' gum aud plate, aud no ordiuary force of matticatiug, cam break them from their base. i 4. A clear and distinct articulation of speech is restored. This importaut change is ejected by having the inside of the * teeth aud gum of n natural form. To this form the tongue is ' readily adapted. This perfect adaptation of tiie tongue to the denture, prevents the hissing ormullltd sounds in speak ing or singing, so ofteu observed In persons wearlug artifi cial teeth. 5. The natural form aud expression of the mouth and face can l>e restored, In cases where they have becomusuuken.? This is done by means of additional attachments to the frame-work supporting the teeth. These attachments are so formed as to bring out the sunken portions, nnd sustain them in their proper position. They are covered with the above named gulp compound, and litcum? component pnrt* of the denture, and when rightly formed caunot be detected by tho closest observer. This method of restoring the cheeks to their original fullness, and also the natural form nnd expres sion of the mouth and lips, has been well tested, having been made a special feature lu the author's practice for several years past. A variety of Photographic ami Daguerreotype Likenesses, which have been taken of peraous without this | improvement and also with it, can be seen at his office, show i ing the great change In appearance which is produced in tho ! countenances or individuals now wcaringdcnturesconstruct j ed upon this principle, which the public are invited to call ' and examine, together with other spechncus of his work, not j requiring the above attachments. 0. The plates usually employed for this work arc platlna, the purity of which prevents even the slightest tarnish or un ' pleasant taste In the mouth. In short, this system embraces | many new and important features, which are readily appre ciated by those wearing artificial dentures upon this princl I pie. With reference to the utility or this method, numerous testimonials can be given from eminent Dentists In the vari ous parts or the Union, and persons wearing the work In this and other cities.
