The Milan correspondent of the London Timet says that there continue* to be a great dual of distress in Lumbnrdy, owing to the recent bad crous and present heavy taxation. The mer chants of Milan complain that there is no bnsi ness whatever doing. People are waiting with intense anxiety the arrival of the period, not yet very near at hand, when an opinion can >>e formed as to the nature of this year's silk har vest. If it proves a failure, the country will be nearly ruined, or at least will receive a shock from which it will take a long time to recover. If it be good, the present holders will experi ence heavy losses from the i-nnsequent fall in prices. This latter, however, is not a consider ation to be put in the balancu against the great amount of misery that would result from a bad crop. A California paper contninslhc following take off: "The Rev. Dr. Uaines will preach in the 'Tabernacle,' corner of Bush and Pine streets^ to-morrow evening, at eight o'clock, a sermon appropriate to the recent election. Subject? 'Zaccheus up a tree: his mode of climbing.'? This will be instructive to littlo men seeking high positions. The defeated candidates for logical offices and legislative honors, are partic ularly and cordially invited to attend." Sons details of the late Indian massacrc in British Honduras, have been recieved. When the Indians took the town of Beccaiaw they kil led one hundred and four persons and took for ty prisoners. Hansom amounting to $4,000 was offered for the release of the latter, but it was refused, and the entire number?thirty wo men and ten men?were brought out and put to death, after the persons of the women had been violated by the Indian soldiers. The people of Kansas complain because th e lands in that Territory have been so early brought into market, contrary to expectation and precedent, compelling squatters to pay up in July, or forfeit their right of preemption.? This hard discrimination against them U proba bly owing to the rebellious disposition of the factious majority.
