The Humeston High School basket Ball team were visiting in Leon last Saturday, having stopped off here on there way home from Mt. Ayr, where they played a game on Friday even ing, being defeated by the Mt. Ayr High School team by a score of 34 to 23. I had this insured at the Townsend agency. The trial of the transient cloth ing merchants who were arrested at Davis City last week on the charge of fraudulent advertising and failure to pay the state transient merchants license, which was set for Monday before Justice A. R. Warford, in this city, was postponed until today. The accused have retained counsel and are going to fight the case. There will be a pie supper at West Eden school Friday night, Jan. 23. A spelling schoel -will be held in connection with the pie supper and a short program given by the school. While they are re ported to be cutting ice a foot thick in California, J. E. Leeper, of north east of Leon, tells us he picked three dandelions in bloom on his farm last Friday. VV 1 crieve that the dande lions have been in bloom in this coun ty every month during the past year. The railroad officials are paying strict attention to the rule not to allow intoxicated persons to ride on a passenger train. The past, week we have seen conductors at the Leon station refuse to allow two passen gers who were intoxicated, to get on their trains. Guess they think the drunks should ride on the hog trains. E. D. Veers and son Lee, of Chari ton, were visitors in Leon last Sat urday, Mr. Veers bringing his son down for a visit with his little friend, Alvin MarKley in this city. Master Lee is quite a piano player for a lad BO young and delighted everybody around the Hotel Leon with his piano playing. The lad gives great promise of becoming a talented mu sician. M. W. Hamilton and family, of Havelock, Neb., arrived last Thurs day and are moving into their home in this city, haying purchased the old Jonathan Hamilton homestead on north Church street. Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton were former residents of this county, residing on a farm near Decatur City, and they have many- friends who welcome them back to good old Decatur county. Mr. and -Mrs. Ed Parker of east of Neon, went to Davis City Monday ev ening to visit a few days at the home of their son Bert Parker. They were accompanied by Dr. A. L. Harrow, of Ft. Scott, Kansas, who is a guest at the Barker home. Mrs. Adron Xoftsger, -of near La moni. was brought to this city last week and operated upon by Leon physicians for a long standing trouble. The operation was a com plicated and delicate one, but Mrs. Xoftsger stood it nicely and every thing indicates that she will make a splendid.recovery, as she is doing exceptionally well. A. .Mannasmith returned Monday morn ing from spending a two weeks vaca tion at his home in Bloomington township, but it was not much of a vacation either, for Cad is the as sessor of Bloomington township, and he assessed tne township^ in the two weeks. Harvey returned Friday evening from l)es Moines, where they attended the republican conference called to de termine whether the standpatters would oppose Senator Cummins by putting a candidate in the field, but the matter was left rather undecid ed, it being determined not to name a candidate at this time, but this de cision may be changed later.
