Savannah, G May 22. A caso
the tenacity with which colorod
people cling to superstition lias just developed
in Tattnall county. Henry Edwards,
a young colored man of that
county, who is well thought of by his
white neighbors, became cnamorod of a
colored girl across the line in Liberty
county. The- girl came to this city on a
visit, and whilo hero received a letter from
her Tattnall lover, full of devoted
Bcntinicnts. To make his letter more
acceptable the swain had perfumed it
As soon as tlio odor reached the nostrils
of the girl sho conceived the idea that
it was love powder. Sho returned hornet
narrated the ovent to her father, who grew
indignant and brought tho matter up in
church. Tho case was on trial Saturday,
and the young man was required to acknowledge
his sin nnd repentance, when
his church membership would by restored
to him. This he refused to do, stating that
ho knew nothing about witchcraft, whereupon
tho girl's father pulled o(f his coat
and was about to chastise the offender when
ho was rosttaincd. Ho lias 100 with
which ho has relnincd a lawyer to prosecute
the caso in the courts.
