on tho strength of u confession of Jacob
Nelling, farm hand of Atkin.-on, that on
tho afternoon of tho day when tho tragedy
occurred Ludd proposed to him that they
rape the young ptrl. NclHiur emphatic

Ladd. The latter is, liowoor, known to

the screams of the unfortunate girl and

will be remembered as tho hostler of
Mrs. Johusen, whoo name has been
linked with that of Mr. Atkinson in
connection. Excitement runs hijjh
at Oxiord, and Ladd is in peril of lynching.
Three physicians on Sunday exhumed
the remains of tho dead girl, but,
having set in, no examina
tion could be made. A court of inquiry
will hoar Nellings3 evidence under oath at
Fowler this morning.

of Mrs, A. II. Leggett, wife of the postmaster
at New Bridge, IJcrger county, was
found in tlie Ilackensaclc river. She h;id
been mining since the night of October
2nd, when she left her resilience clad only
in her night drets, leaving a note baying
that she was going to tho river. An alleged
gho4 has bevu haunting the neighborhood
lately and this apparition has
been supposed by some to bo Mrs. Leggett.
Now that her death has been ascertained
to bo a result of hiiicidc, the police are
searching for the perpetrator of the ghu.it
hoax.

Cheese The market is easy, with only a
moderate demand. Prime to choice Ohio
quoted at 10l0)c, and New York at

during the week, but more favorable
weather caused a ehaugo ut the cloe and

buyers took hold at concessions. No. 3
mixed was hard to hell at above 60Jc and
No. 2 mixed at5152c. Kar corn quoted
at 5053c, as to quality. Wheat The
market was steady, with a fair milling demand
for fresh track lots, but elevator
stocks held rates down. No. 2 red was
purchasable in elevators at (1 03J(1 01,
but track lots were held at $1 011 04 J,
Hard red quoted at ?1 05l 00, and long
berry at $1 071 08, but a car of strictly
fancy loneberry in a favorablo location
sold at 51 10. Oats Unchanged and
steady at 2!)29u for No, 3 mixed: 30
30Jc for No. 2 mixed; and at 311032c for
No. 2 white.
