Dawson, announces him self in this issucas a candidate for Marsh al at the next city election. His effi ciency has been demonstrated by his years of service as Deputy Marshal. The Fleming Democrat comes to us this week under another name, The True Blue Democrat. The change was made, says the editor, so that the name of the paper might conform to its principles. Mr. 0. S. Leach announces his can didacy for re-election to the office of City Collector and Treasurer in this issue. Mr. Leach is serving his second term and the prompt and faithful manner in which he has ever discharged his official duties will be a stroni; card in his favor in the coming race. And then he has a host of warm friends who will pull off their coats for him if necessary. Charleston, S. C, is fast recovering from the wreck and ruin wrought by the earthquake a year ao. During the past year over 0,000 buildings have been built and repaired, and 271 absolutely now buildings have been erected. The whole cost is $4,300,000, of which Charles ton spent nt least $3,000,000. This is a wonderful showing, when the terrible havoc wrought by the earthquake is con sidered. m Tennyson's "May Queen." Bush, aged eighty-two, and his wifo, aged seventy-eight. At 5 o'olock this morning two men, bent on robbery, eithor negroes or white men blacked, were discovered to bo la tho houso, and shot Dr. Bush in the fore head and Mrs. Bush in the body, Inflicting probably mortal wounds. A twelre-yoar old grandson was in the house, and in his flight was shot at several times. I Ho gavo tho alarm and hundreds of cltl esus are scouring the surrounding country after the porpetrators, who, if caught will be spoedily lynched. They secured 40 in money. Being fooled in this they went to tho house of Mr. Bush. It is not thought the aged couple can lire. Ex citement runs high. A Sheriff Shoots Four Cattle Thlares. Albuquerque, N. 11, Sept 7. One of the most corapleto single handed shooting icrapos that ever occurred in this seotion, transpired yesterday noon at Holbrook, A. T. Four desporodoos rode into that town yesterday morning from Tonto Basin, named Tom Blivens, Jake Cooper, Charles Roberts and Jim Blivens, all notorious cat tle thieves. Sheriff Owens, having war rants for their arrost, ran upon his men in a little shanty adjoining the livery stable of Brown & Kinders. He demanded their sur render, which was answered by a volley of WANTED. Ernst offered at public sale at tho door of tho U.S. Court-house, the Kentucky & South Atlantic Railway, with all its fixures and appurtenances. It was sold by order of tho U. S. Circuit Court, in the case of Griffith P. Griffith, trusteo, against tho Coal Road Constructing Co. The terms of sale were $1,000 cash, and tho balance in six and twelve and eighteen months, at G per cent per annum from date of sale. There was only one bid for the road, that of $20,000 by H. E. Huntington for O. P. Huntington. The road runs from Mt. .Sterling to Rothwell, Ky., twenty miles, and was sold to satisfy a debt due C. P. Hunting ton for $5,000. ' v Sons of Veterans. For months theio men have caused a reign of terror in the Territory of Ari zona. Llvod Six Toars in a Seoond Century. Cincinnati, Sopt. 7 Tho remains of Lawrence Malloy, 100, laborer, of Sabina, O., wore brought to this city to-day for burial Malloy was born in Iroland, where he married and resided until 1849. At the ago of sixty-eight he came to Cincinnati, his wife dying here six weeks afterward of cholora. Ho lived in this city until twonty years ago, when he went toSabina to reside with a married daughter. The funeral took place at 1 :30 p. m. from the residence of a son-in-law, James Egan, at WJ Eastern avenuo. Tho decoosod had ten children, Ave of whom survive. Ho has thirty living grandchildren and six groat-great-grandchildren. Five 3Ion Fatally Injured. Mount Vkhnon, 111., Sept. 7. About 7 o'clock this morning a threshing machine belonging to William Bumphus exploded and fatally injured five men. Tho names of the victims are as follows: J. H. Mitchell, Robert Bernard, Thomas J. Williams, Coony Bumphus and Willie Bumphus. Tho cause of tho explosion is unknown, but it is supposed to have been a dofect in the en gine, which was an old one. Skirmish Iletween Italians and Irish. WiLKESBAnitK, Pa., Sept 7. There was a bloody all'ray at Hazeltou Sunday botweon Irish and Italians. It grew out of a fight between two men, and finally involved nearly tho whole population. Clubs, razors, aud knives were used. The Italians were finally routed. About twonty-flve men were quite badly hurt, but John Cannon, tho man who fint started tho row, is tho only ! one likely to die.
