The board visited county jail and
county hospital and found everything
satisfactory. There waa found to b
two inmates in the hospital aud six
prisoners in the jail.
Board checked receipts of recorder
for the quarter ending June 30, 1896.

XV. Iraucis, Mayor of the town of
Flagstaff, for the use of the county jail
for the retention of town prisoners at
a monthly rental of $15 per month,
rent to bo charged from May 1, 1896.
It is understood that the town shall
make good all damage that may be
dono to the jail by the town prisoners,
and if at any time tho county shall
need all tho jallroom the town shall
remove its prisoners.

The territorial funds havo been
transferred from the Phoenix National
to the Valley Bank.
Peralta Reavis1 claim to a largo tract
of Arizona has got a quietus. Instead
of figuring as a large landed proprietor
he will don a convict's suit.
The police of Los Angeles, Cal., have
arrested a man named William Van
Horn in connection with tho killing of
Edmund White, a railroad man, several
nights ago. Thoy claim Van Horn,
who comes from Arizona, did tho
Marion Mitchell, superinteudcut of
the Arizona Copper Company's works
at Mclcalf, Graham county, was mur
dered by a Mexican last Thursday.
Mitchell was justice of tho peaco and
had fined tho Mexican, when the latter
for revenge committed the deed.
"Windy Bob" was bitten ou tho
back of his left hand by a rattlesnake
some ten days since on Salt "river. Ho
says the only remedy he used war tho
pulpy leaf of tho prickly pear, which
he applied as a poultice immediatelv
after receiving the bite, aud the wound
gave him but littlo troublo.
One of the hastiest bonds ever se
cured ou short notice in this territory
was that of T. E. Farish who began at
10 o'clock on Tuesday to get a bond
for $317,000 and bjr two o'clock it was
approved and tiled with the secretary
of the territory. Eighteen well known
gentlemen, who happened to bo near
at band, appended thoir names
A fatal accident occurred at Mesa
City yesterday in which Mrs. Standage,
mother of the late Supervisor William
Standage, lost her life. She had gono
out into tho barnyavd to gather eggs,
and seeing a nest on the top of a largo
haystack she crawled up to it aud
secured the ,eggs. In coming down
horfoot slipped and she fell to the
ground, striking upon her head and
breaking her neck. She was an old
woman, having passed her seventy-
third year, and was greatly esteemed
and honored by tbo peoele of Mesa
City, where she has resided for years.-
