Kwi (tests' mjasjmmvfrtmmmmmg r i a T11K COCONINO SUN. An Unprecedented Success. A ixisso ml esse! The stutement that amateur surpasses professional effort in ii drumutie sense in sometimes, though rarely, true; mid yet, if we were to say that the production of "A Gilded Fool" by the Flagstaff Dramatic circle on the 12th instant was the most successful entertainment, viewed from either a professional or an amateur standio!nt. ever enjoyed by the citizens of Flag stuff, who would nay us nay' We will venture a prediction: Those who wit nessed the iHjrformanee commiserated the unhappy fate- not of the author, for he was to be congratulated on hav ing written a iowerful play: not of the jierforaiei s, for they had good parts to plaj and plajed them well; not of the audience, for they had wisely availed themselves of a too rare opjiortunity of sharing the sorrows and jo.s of f'haun cey Short: but, as you looked around at the well tilled house and found from ,our programme that you were watch ing, with ati interest that accumulated act by act, a comedy that wan to le played but one night of the bene llciury, for whose sake you wished that the career of "A Glided Fool" could lie prolonged. . In Chauneey Short Mr. Flynn was provided witha strong character, which enabled him to display his great jKiwer. both us a comic and u serious actor, with great effect, as that very large constituency with whom he Is so deservedly popular will in the future give themselves the pleasure of observ ing by personal inspection. He was ablj supported by Mrs. T. A. Kiordun. Miss Margaret Murray and Mrs. John Clark, the latter always jKipulur with a Flagstaff audience, all of whom were undeniably successful In their respect ive part. Mr. Sllker won admiration in the dual part of detective and cler gyman, while the work of Messrs. Ver l.ump. Pollock. Quinlan. Doheny. Cam eron, Hochderffer and Cullinan speaks for itself. It would lie unjust to close this notice without a mention of Miss Tolfree's personation of Nell, a part so well played that it would puzzle the most exacting critic to pick fault therewith. The citizens of Flugstaff are certainly proud of their dramatic circle, and The Sun congratulates its memliers. Home Rule. Notwithstanding that the chairman of the Flagstaff Literary society did consume nineteen minutes in summing up the "fifteen minutes" debate, and then decided the "home rulers" had the liest of the argument, when ho put the subject to a vote of the audience they enthusiastically voted the home rule proposition to lie no good. So would vote the Intelligent jieople throughout the territory were they called ukiu to do so. Ah a matter of fact we all want home rule, but want it In the shape of sovereign statehood, which would give us two senators und one representative. This representa tion would lie lienefielal, for it could demand the projier recognition from congress. On the other hand, with home rule our conditions would not lie improved, for we would then be wholly at the mercy and those cormorants have no mercy of the Vputrid poli ticians," to use the expression of the l'huMiix Gazette, and our chances for statehood indefinitely jxistponed.
