The cot ton was principally of the Pima var ietv and was the best ever shipped from the state. Mr. Morrow had 30 acres planted to cotton on his Big Sandy ranch, but we did not learn wlint the yield per acre was, as the picking has not et been completed. It is understood that several hun dred acies will be planted to this grade of cotton this coming year. The Rig Sandy is ideal for the, growing of cotton, being free from the pests that are infesting the older cot ton sections, and is al.-o one of the best alfalfa growing parts of the state. Fruits, garden truck and prac tically all crops grown on semi-tropical regions may be successfully grown there. Kingman Minor. o ERA OF CHEAP LAND FOREVER CONE IN THE UNITED STATES The frontiers in America have van ished. The era of cheap lands will never return. From now on the price of land will be increased because of the natural scarcity of tillable areas and the increasing cost of cultivating land which is tillable. According to the United States de partment of agriculture, there are 49, 000,000 acres of absolute desert. 270, 000,000 acres o" foiest land and 600, 000,000 acres of land which is semi arid and suitable only for grazing. Those who wish new lands can fim' plenty of it in cut-over lections at prices ranging from $10 to S50 per acre. But it would cost all the wa from $35 to $200 per acre to clear tht land and place it toady for culitvu tlon. There are U ,000,000 acres ol undrained land that can be purchaser: cheaply, but the cost of drainage is almost prohibitive. FARMERS HAVE $2,000,000,000 MORE NOW THAN LAST YEAR According to the Farm and Home, one of the leading farm publications in the United States, the buing pow er of the f aimers of the country dur ing the coming vear will b over $1, 250,000,000 to $2,000,000,000 greater than last year. This estimate i. based upon current prices quoted on lending crops of the country. At tention is called to the fact that hay is selling higher than since 1920, that corn is selling at 70 per cent ov.-r the low figures touched in the fall of FJ21 oats 45 per cent higher than 1021, barley 5" per cent higher and hogs 28 per cent higher. o KANSAS CITY WEEKLY MARKET REPORT Decmber 18. 1!)22. The live stock market is moving in to n position for the holiday season. Next Monday the yards will be closed to all business, except receiving, wa tering and feeding lne stuck, and con sequently receipts both the rest of this week and early next week will le small. Hog prices today were up 10 to 15 cents and there will probably bo a further advance before the week end. Cattle sold readily at strong prices and sheep and lambs were steady. Today's Receipts Receipts today were 13,000 cattle, 15,000 hogs and G,000 sheep, compar ed with 20,000 cattle, 17,000 hogs and G.000 sheep a week ago and 10,725 cat tlo, 10,560 hogs and 16,750 sheep a year ago. Reef Cattle Demand for cattle showed consid erable activity and while there was no general advance prices were consid ered firm in all divisions. Decreased inns will be in store for the next two weeks, and in the miantime the mar ket will clear up-the holdings in sec ond hands, and be in a position to Btart the new year in a strong posi tion. Practically all the long time fed cattle have been marketed and from now on offerings will equal those that were placed on feed after September. This change in the lenj'th of the feed ing pcrioj will result in a general re adjustment in quotations to a nar rower price spread. The bulk of the fod steers are bringing $7.50 to $8.75, a few above $9.25 and odd lots suit able for the Christmas trade up to $13.75. Cows and heifers are selling readily. Canner grades are bringing $2 to $2.50. Veal calves and bulls wero steady. Stockers and Feeders Trade in stockers and feeders was active nt firm prices. Indications are that a complete clearance will be ef fected this week. Demand is abnvo normal for this season of the year. Cold weather has not caused much de cieaso in -demand. Hogs Hog prices today were 10 to 15 cents higher and practically all the good hogs sold at $8 to $8.15. De mand is large and both packers and shippers are buying freely. Deccm- u: s.D i u ,.c.,i juvuii- bjt the fact that the buying side has not been able to get prices for any length of time under the 8 cent level I indicates that fat hogs are going to sell clo?o to present quotations for the 1 next sixty days. Packing sows were higher at $7.35 to $7.00, and pigs sold at $7 to $7.25. Sheep and Lambs Prices for sheep and lambs were steady with last week's close, and about 50 cents under the high point. Most of the offerings wore native lambs that sold at $14.50, and clipped lambs at $12.50 to $12.75. Good light weight ewes sold at $7 to $7.10. Horses and Mules Trade In horses and mules was 1 quiet at steady prices. Because of tne holidays demand will be small un til after the first of the year. CHAS. M. PIPKIN, .L..,. wareci Lorresponucnt.
