ovex the number estimated to have
visited the city last Mardi Gras The
fact that 900 persons were attracted
to the city by the Carnival is borne
out by figures furnished by the Louis
ville Nashville and proves clearly
that Pensacolas Mardi Gras carnivals
are growing more popular with each
succeeding year and where eight and
nine ycSrs ago only a few hundred
came to the city they now number up
into many thousands
This year the travel by boat and
the number to come to the city prior
to Thursday showed a big increase as
all of the river vessels were crowded
on each trip and it is conservatively
estimated that these brought fully
3000 people to the city including
those who began arriving ten days
and two weeks ago and oontinued to
increase in number each day up to
Thursday when records were obtain
ed It is thus estimated and conser
vative too that the visitors num
bered fully 9000
The hotels and boarding houses had
the greatest rush of their existence
to handle this number of visitors
Providing food ana a place to sleep
for possibly 1000 for it can safely be
said that 1000 isited relatives was
a task but none went hungry or were
without a lodging place provided they
desired such a place But many of
them did not seek bods for there
was fun and frolic almost the entire
