Mant people in town, apl in the adjacent country, it re U.Iking of viewing and aurvrrinir a new route for the Eastern O'.tio to reach Mc Connelsvtlle.by w.it of Miittonburg and to intersect, the ld route a short distance this 6ide of tbe Ark SpringaTunn.il. Columbus, Ferrara and Mineral Region Rail Road. On Pridny of last week, a large meeting was held in Columbus in the interest of tho above proposed new line of Ritilrond. It'wus as certained at the meeting, that it would take about 500.000 to tirade it, and it vns stated that fully $400,000 had been subscribed for tSal purpose. The proposed lino is the shortost possible one between C!nmbiis and the great Coul Vein ot Perry Coun ty, and there in no doubt but that it will bo built. t By invitation, the citizens of Malta hud their roprvscnative, Mr Jaines M. Rogers, pnseni at the meeting, for the purposo of ascer taining what could bo done relalivo to a connection of the Muskingum River with said road, the po:nt of connection with tho river being Malta. Mr Eogcr8 received every en couragement and usbnrunce, possi ble to be made at tho meeting, that tho above road would give some material assistance townrd construc ting & road between Malta and the neatest point of connection with said road in Porry Count)'. Considering this prospect, and that there is a standing offer from Perry County now to give 525,000 toward a road to M il'.a, we should think that the men of pnsh and go aheadiiivness on tho Wc6t side of the river wonld take the matter m hand at once, and proceed to raise the subscriptions necessary to build the road. The line is but a short one, and would not cost the pcoplo of the west side of tho rivi-r, considering he outside assistance lh.-y would have, more than $7? .000. And be. Hides, there is no don1), in the world but that it would bo onj of the boat paring invcHlmcriU that money could bo put in. The Coal of Perry County, in or dcr to gel into market cheaply, has to be transported by water. Rail road transportation will always limit the district where Perry Coun ty coal w:ll be 6olJ, if :t all has to be transported by I uilroads. and, consequent!', the need of rivcrH transportation which is always cheaper. Malta is about the noirosl point whore Perry County coal can be got to a navigable river, and the trans it of coal over a road lroin Malta to the Perry Ccur.ty Coal fields wonld be immense, and would, of lUelf, make the road a paying in stitution. But this is not all. Tbe iron in terest of Perry County wpuld find it fully as advantageous to use such a rond as tbe coal interest, and for tbe Sams reason; tbe cheapnesj of river navigation. Besides, who kdows but that Ual- la, it this road is mtJe, may bo come a point for the establishment of a Blast Furnace and Rolling Mill. Such an idea is far from ba ing prcposterors; it is really one of the probabilities. All in all, we shall always thick that the people of the West Side of the river aro both blicd and dumb to their interest if they do not push this matter with nil their zeul and energy. Some of our McConnelsville friends may think that thia, our advocacy of a road from Malta to Porry Conn ty, at this jucturo, is out of place We think not. It is one of the car tainties that the West side of the river is not going to do anything toward the Eastern Ohio on the McConnelsvilio side of tho river Snch being the case, the best thing the West side can do is to go to work and push tha matter through on that sido. The West side is fuN ly able to build the road spoken of, without any nssistar.ee from the UcCantielsville Bide, and the Mc Connelsville side is fully able to raise Ler proortion of the funds necessary to grade the Eastern Ohis east of McCounelsvil'e. So, as all we want is a rnil road let both sides of tho river go to work earnestly, each in their own territory. Presbytery of Athens. The Prexbylery of Athens met in the Presbyterian Chuich hi Nelson villlo, Tuesday evening, at 6oclock, P. M. After having been organ ised by prayer by the Moderator, agreeably to lite order of a former inoet-ntr. Presbytery proceeded to iniitHll Rov: Jnlius StrnuhS p.iHior of tne Kelson villo ' Church. Rev. All ol these parts were performed ably and with great interest to the Pres bytery, pastor nd people, Jlov. C. O Hart whs received in to this Presbytery and n rat! for his pastoral service from tho Church at Lngnc was placed in his hands. Having signified his acceptance of the call, Presbytery proceeded to n.nko arrangements for his installs ment. A committee consisting of Revs. Hart and Scott was appointed to report a plan of iniUllation ser vices. Wlu'elhis commit to w-ts pre paring its report. Rev. The committee bein now ready reported the fallowing plan of in stallation : Rov. Cooper to pre sulo nnd propnso Constitutional questions; Kov. Addy to preach, the ermon; Rov. Scott to deliver the charge to the pastor; and Rev. Suhwefcl the chargo to tho people. The report was received and adopted. This institllnliofi will be of great interest. Some years ago - Rov. Hart wa9 tor a number of years pastor of thd Church at Logan. Ho now returns lrom Shawneetown. Iilinnito renow that relation with thn Church at Loan. A ino'.ion was now made and pass ed t hut when thio Presbytery ad journs, it anjoQi rs to meet at Lo- qritn, Wednesday evening, at b o'clock, P. M., to Attend to the in stallment of Brother Hart. More Akok. OBITUARY. Will I'E Died in M:Coi.ne!av:lIe, Morgan County, O, Oct. 2lst, 1871, Mrs. Maby A., consort of Mr G. W. White, nnd daughter of Joseph and Sarah Puirphrey, aged 3 years, 10 morulas, nnd 16 days. Mrs. Wuito, the sut.ject of this notice, was born in Jefferson Co , O , Dec. 5th, 1S17. On the lOih of Nov., 1836, being then in the 20th year of her og, she was united in marriage to Mr. G. W. White, then of Rural Dale, O., who survives her, nnd i now berol't of the loved companion and friend of his youth. A lengthy eulogy on tho character of one hose life was tho exempli fication ol so many virtnos, would seem, indeed, entirely snperflurus. Still it would be doing riolcuco to truth und momlity it, when such a life was ended, thoso virtues which gained ior hur so noble a record, should bo allowed to perish with what of her was mortal. A fitting encomium is always appropriate when those who havo been bless ings lo society nro removed from earthly scones. To all who enjoyod an intimate urquaintunco with the deceased, it was evident that her piety was of tho most solid kind, not evaporating in la!k, nor intru ding itself in an ostentatious pro fession, but operating in a constant and exemplary discharge ot every private and social duly. In rela tion to her domestic duties, she was truly a pattorn of dilligence; nor was she unmindl'ul of those highor obligtion8 which have re lation to the preparation of the soul for tho enjoyment of a purer aod higher state of existence Free from every kind of display, her re ligion was of a retired nature, plan ted by the rivers of water and led by a secret spring, its leaves never withered anil it brought forth its fruit in its season. Her faith was such as purifiVd tho heart, and man ifested itself in a series ot wise and holy actions. Her hope was an "anchor of the soul, sure ana stead fast, entering into that within tbe vail." Her illness was protracted, continuing about two years and though' otten severe, was borne with pationco and christian resig nation, for 6be endured as seeing him who is invisable. Hor funeral services were held in the Baptist Church at Rural Dale, O , of which she was a worth member for many yoars The sermon was by the writer of this notico, from 1st verse of tho 5th chapter of 2nd Cor., which she had choson a1? expressivo of her .unshaken confidence and faith in the gospel. Followed by a large concourse of grief-stricken friends, her remains wcro then de posited in the Rural Dale Cemetery where they will calmly repose un til the trump of God awakes tho sleeping dust, aod bids her rise to life and immortality.
