A Beautiful Handwriting
There are but few of our readers
who would not like to acquire a
apid and, beautiful handwriting,
for there is no other one acconi
plishnieiit so highly prized as this.
The business colleges of the coun
try have afforded tho best instruc:
tion in this branch, and have suc
ceeded in producing the most no
complished penmen. The best pen
man in America to-day is Prof.
Gaskell, Pres't of tho Bryant &
Stratton Colleges Manchester, N. II.
There are few lovers of tho boauti
ful art of penmanship who have
not heard of this wonderful penman,
and many have seen specimens of
his skill, His large specimens have
attracted,, great attention in New
York City and throughout the
country where they have . been
placed on exhibition.
He is now engaged day and night
sending out copies for self-instructions,
which he writes himself, ex
pressly for applicants, so that any
one can learn to write at tho home
fireside. Those contain full printed
instructions, and are put up in large
heavy envelopes, and sent by mail
prepaid for $1.00 per package.
They aro nil numbered and so fully
explained- that no one can fail to
learn rapidly from them. They
have been ordered by thousands
not by poor writers alone, but by
tho leading teachers of penmanship
tin oiighout tho Unites States and
Canada. Our readers would do
well to write for a package, as
nothing so complete, beautiful and
useful for self-instruction will ever
again be offered them.

A Strange Case—Marrying His
Motherin-Law.
[From the Memphis Ledger.]
.... Some months since in one of
our courts there was filed a
petition for divorce, which ex
hibits a strange freak of human
nature. Tho petitioner ' was
married in 1S52, anil his wife
died in February, 1871, leaving
eight surviving children as tnv'
fruits of said marriagejhis mother
in-law took great interest in
her grandchildren, and the com
plainant in the divorce bill, and
at tho time feeling that the
grandmother was nearer and
dearer to his children than any
other human being, and was
bound to them by the ties of

a marriage was duly solemn

there was any impropriety

husband and wife. The ster
was suggested to both partie
by a tender consideration for
the welfare oftheeiaht children
In November, 1871, it was in
limited lor the first time, to
petitioner that under the law
ol lennessee such a marriage
was illegal and void, and greatly
surprised at such information
petitioner sought the advice of a
ollicer of the church to which
he belonged and from lliore
learned in the law, and was in
formed that such a marriagi
wa3 void, owing to the previous
relationship of the parties.
In November the parties ceased
to live together, and agreed to
apply for a divorce a vinculo, or

by tho court, annulling the
marriage, the parties bein
