(rrom Morning Ldlttou The famous plug hat brigade of this city has a history from which the grand old cam paign for James G. lllaine in this state bor rows no little of Its lustre. That it should inaugurate a movement that will start tbe great boom lor the republican candidate lor governor, nominated by a grand contention in our own cily, is notably within tbe line and order ot the eternal fitness of things. That the republicans of Springfield should conceive a grand serenade to Foraker In his own city, which promises to compare favor ably with the gnat Indianapolis display, is but another proof that the Champion City is to be no laggard in the fight but that the full weight of her republicanism is to be thrown enthusiastically tor Judge Foraker and tbe republican ticket. To ibis end n meeting was culled last evening at the court houe tor the purpose ot completing ar rangements for the excursion serenade to be given on Monday, Sept. 28, by tbe republi cans of Sprlugdeld to Judge Foraker at his own home in Cincinnati. Tin. MrrTiMi. At about 7 JO p. m. a good number ot the lealing joung republicans, with a sprinkle of the old wheel-liorse', met in the court room, and on motion by James Foley, It. F. Hay. ward was called to preside, and Jas. H. Hale, ol tbe Gioua-tUi'iiiuc, elected secrelaiy. Mr. Hay ward etatrd the object of the meet ing. He said that Capt. llushnell had re quested that a meeting lie called to make tbe necessary arrangements to take a mammoth excursion of Springfield republicans down to Cincinnati for the purpose of serenading Judge Foraker at his borne, on Monday, 28th inst. It is understood that an elegant badge will lie furnished by Capt Bu-hnell for all who may go. Tbe excursion is to leave early in tbe morning and spend the day in the city. On motion by A. O. Huffman, a committee vi a9 appointed to secure rates from the rail roads, the lowest bid to be accepted James Foley, W.S. Wilson and J. C. Hollovay, committee on finance: J. F. McGrew. E. M. Campbell and Mayor Goodwin; on bands and glee club. A. O. Huffman and Samuel Har ris; on uniforms, John O. Carey, jr., Harry Babbitts and J. M. Bennett. A motion prevailed that Adjl. Carey be in stiucted to Issue orders to the line officers, enptnins and lieutenants of the plug bat brigade to meet at the court house on Mon day evening next at 7:30 o'clock sharp. The colored Foraker club was cordially In vited to join the excursion as a body in their own unilorm. A motion was unanimously carried that no one should be allowed to go on the excursion without a uniform (the plug hat to be adopted hereafter) and with a distinct under standing tba. he remain with tbe company until the demonstration at Cincinnati is over. It was decided that the Big Six and ont other band be employed for the occasion. Alter some dlscustion it was decided to re organize tbo plug hat brigade for this occa sion, and that the rolls be open for new recruits and that the old veterans of tbe line be ordered to report for one more charge on the old enemy. SI'FCIAL leTICIS. The next meeting for perfecting arrange ments will be held at the wigwam on Monday evening next, 14th inst. Committee on finance will meet this morning at J. F. McGrew's office at nine o'clock. Committee on railroads will meet this morning at 9 o'clock at Holloway's. Committee on uniform will meet at Gu genbeim's store at 7 30 o'clock this evening. Norm. It is a question whether to get new black plug hats or take the old white ones. Two bands, the glee club and 1,500 people will go. It is tbe same old plug bat brigade, and It will add another laurel to its crown of glory. Every republican should be there. This is Springfield's way of doing a thing properly, perfectly and enthusiastically, and it is original with Ibe Champion City. ' Tbe old fire will buru anew and it will be one of tbe grand successes. The uniform will bo a plug hat and For aker badge. There will be a deep tinge of red put upon tbe political horizon when tbe plug hat bri gade takes tbe held. Don't forget tbatl I. It. A W. l.icur.lou. The I.
