Fi r the last thn cwocks Uic market litre
lias liocn remarkably dull, and there is not
at thin writing any very flattering indica

tef. However, this erudition of affairs' ean
not laet always, and we live in Iiojhj that
tlie near future will bring forth gixxl re
mits and a lx tter and more nctivo market.
Our merchants always experience a falling
on f trade at this season of the year, and
hence it is no dkippoiiunicnt to them that
they are not crowded juit now. They were
prepared for its coming.
The weather Cir the- hot few days has
been cold and iliwii.Teeable, and decidedly
unfavorable for the growing crops, fruits,
etc. To-day. one of the gloomiest of the
K-ason, u cold rain has fallen and tires have
k-en a necessity. It is feared that a frot
may follow a clearing off, aud in that event
fruit and garden vegetables will .suffer.
The market for flour, hay, oats, etc., is
fjuiet and but litte has been dime. Prices,
how.ver, are generally unchanged and
ttea.ly at quotation. Corn and meal are
more active and all .that arrives is taken
readily at quotation. Country produco of
almost every oiscreptiou i abundant and
prices are as a rule very low.
The rivers are .-till declining, though the)
are yet far a'xive low water. Itatcs to the
south by river are unclmnrrd. Fn-HiN
