The market has not changed materially
since our last report &o far as prices are con
cerned, though there is a marked falling otf
in the demand for flour, grain, etc., and in
fact nl most all articles for which our mer
chants find a market in the South. The
prevalence of the yellow fever at New Or
leans and Memphis and at several points in
Mississippi has had u lmd effect ujioii the
market here, and id some respects trado is
practically at a st.ind still.
So far wc have had no fever here, and
with a thorough quarantine and u lilierul
life of disinfectants, our people feel confi
dent that we will not have any. Reports
that the fever has ma le its appearance here
an- unfounded and without even the shadow
of truth in them. The weather is warm,
though not opprcive, and a cod and re
freshing hree.e has prevailed fur the lat
J-()ur friends should hear in mind that
the prices here given are only f"r sales from
tirt hands in round lot. In tilling orders
and for broken lots it is ncci-siiry to charge
an advance upon then: figure.

OATS. The supply of oats is large,
while the demand is light and prices low
and wuik. Sale were 1 car mixed, in
sack, 21e; 2 cars mixed, in bulk, 2-lc; 1

MEAL. There is very little doing in
meal, and sales since mir last roKrt have
been very light. Prices are unchanged.
Sales were M'l lihls. kiln dried, $2 Oil; 200
bills, city, $2 00.
EUAN. The supply is lair and prices
Steady at $! 50ej.l0.
POTATOES. This m il ket is well sup
plied. The demand is fair at prices quoted.
Sales noted were 121 bushels peach blows,

APPLES. Common apples won't sell,
There is a fair demand for choice. We note
the sale of M bbb. choice, $1 41; 20 bbl..
choice, $1 40.
PEACHES. To sell, peaches must be
choice. o other kind is wanted. We
note the sale of 30 boxes choice, 20 dj, 21
liUTTEH. There is a scarcity of .strict
ly choice butter and a limited supply would
sell readily. All other grades are plenty,
dull nini hard to dispose of at any price.

I'usiness on the levee and wharf was
quiet and news scarce. The arrivals and
depirtures were not numerous.
The Jas. I). Parker passed up from Mem
phis to Cincinnati, She was quarantined
lu re but she was found to be in good con
dition and no sickness on lioard and was
allowed to coin'' into port.
The Iiolivur H. CVok', Cairo und Evans
ville packet, came in on time with a fair
trip. She left at 7 p. m. on her return with
a fair passenger lit and good freight trih.
The I). .-Biiiet, from Paducdi to St. Louis.
passed up with a liht trip.
The T. T. llillman, Cairo and New Mad
rid pa k"t. came in light.
The Alice, from St. Louis to Vicksbr.rg
passed. She was sailing light.
The John Gillmore and barges were not
permitted to land, but one of her barges
whs brought to the wharf to receive freight.
The Gillmore went to the Kentucky bank
while the barge was being loaded. None
of the crew w.-re allowed on shore.

Sk'Tion 1. That section numbered 1!)
(nineteen) of chapter 14 itourteeni of t!ie
reviwii ordinances be amended so as to here
after read as follows, to-wit:
Si c. 10. It shall be the duty of the city
marshal and of all police constables, und it
shall In-lawful for any person to take up
and impound in the city pound provided for
that purpose, any dog found in the city not
having a collar around its its neck with
the metallic plate aforesaid attached there
to. And if such dog shall not be redeem
ed within twentv-totir hours after it shall
have been impounded, it shall be the duty
of the city marshal, or other proper officer,
to lay or can" the same to be shiin. But
it is hereby provided, that any such dog so
ihiKiiiiidcd may be redeemed or taken from
said pound by or upon the payment of the
tax hereby iiupos.il and an impounding fee
of two dollars.

city ot Cairo;
Skctio.n 1. That the sum of twenty
thousand dollars is hereby levied and
assessed for corporate purposes upon the
real and personal property within the city
of Cairo, subject to taxation, as the same i's
assessed for state and county purposes for
the current year.
Si.c. 2. The mayor and city clerk of said
city of Cairo arc hereby directed
to certify to the county clerk of Alex
ander county, Illinois, on or before the
second Tuesday in August, A. D., 1878, that
the said city of Cairo requires the sum of
twenty thousand dollars to be raised by
taxation for the current year, and the city
clerk is further directed to tile with said
county clerk of Alexander county, on or
before the said second Tuesday in August,
A. I)., 1878, a certified copy "of this ordi
nance. Si:c. !!. Whenever the countv clerk of
saiil Alexander county has extended the tax
above levied for the said city of Cairo up
on the county collector's book for the cur
rent year, it shall be the duty of the city
clerk to ascertain the exact amount si)
extended, and charge the same upon his
books to said collector, and to credit the
saiil collector with the sums he shall from
time to tune pay to the city treasur
er on account of saiil tax. Provided thu
city clerk shall not credit the said collector
with any abatements or forfeitures of said
tax, until the same have been examined and
allowed by the city council; but it shall be
the duty of the city clerk to obtain from
