evening, getting a lot ot pig iron and mis
cellaneous freight here.
The liolle Memphis arrived from below
at ten o'clock yesterday morning. She
went to the Cairo and Vincennes wharf
boat where nhe put off 1000 bales cotton.
The James Howard will be at the wharf
this evening, receiving for New Orleans.
She is crowded with people an excursion
party from St. Louis who are making the

yesterday afternoon from New Madrid with

The Mark Twain, Captain Hen MeCul

Captain Thomas W. Shields, who for the

Anchor Lino here, received a telegram from
Mr. Scudder, president of the line, last
evening, requesting him to report at St.
Louis at once. Captain Shields lias dono
good work for the Anchor Line in Cairo
and we hope ho will return, but it is the
general belief that lie is to bo installed as
commander of the City of Greeneville.
