the consideration of the appropriation bills
was resumed by the senate.
Senate bill Xo. .'507, making appropria
tions for the Illinois Charitable Eye and
Ear infirmary of $20,000 per annum, and
$1,500 for repairs and improvement!), was
taken up. The committee amendment
substituting $1,000 instead of $1,500 fur
repairs and improvements adopted.
Mr. Merntt moved that the bill be recom
mitted to the committee on appropriations.
Mr. .Tones moved to make the, amount
$15,000. Lost.
The bill was then engrossed for a third
reading.
Senate bill Xo. ;74, makino appropria
tions for the Illinois Southern Hospital for
the Insane at Anna, was taken up. The
sum asked for for the two years amounts
in the Aggregate to $200,000.
Mr. Joslyn moved to strike out the $5,
000 repairs item and insert $5,000. Adop.
ted.
Mr. Fuller thought $500 a year for the
improvement of the grounds was sufficient,
and moved to strike out $1,000 and insert
that amount. He thought the state could
get along with that sum.
Mr. Ware thought the state could get
along without making auy appropriations.
That in his opinion, wasn't the question,
but what was actually needed.
The amendment was rejected.
Mr. Merntt moved to strike out $00,000
and insert $75,000. lie then attacked the
bill vigorously and charged that the calling
for the appropriation of im unexpended
balance of $2-1,000 was a shnm originating
with the state board of charities. There was
none of this money in the treasury lis was
preti nded. There never had been made
an npproprlmlon that was not used, Two
years ago the appropriation was $s,,,O0O
and on (he face ol this bill they tell us
that that amount was $21,000 too much.

which was adopted unanimously:
Resolved that it is the judgment of this
caucus that the house shall not adjourn
over Monday next but that there should be
a session on that day, to allow the intro
duction of bills in the usual manner and
placing ot important lcsislation in line of
progress without unnecessary delay.
Representative Stephens then offered the
following resolution with the request that
it be read and laid on the table for action
of a future caucus :
Resolved that the aims and objects of the
Democracy of the United States, as far as wc
chosen by them members of the present
house of representatives, are entitled to b

and objects, are directed with singleness of
purpose to the restoration of constitutional
