TOBACCO From some unknown causj
not satisfactorily explained by the dealers
and operators, tobacco has ceased to arrive
in the western markets as largely as was
anticipated. This leads to a surmise that
the crop of 1ST has been over estimated.
The result is that buyers are anxious and
teel disposed to expand the quotations of
Uet Tvcek to such an extent that it can
safely be put down as an advance. Receipts
are liberal in this market and all offerings
are easily taken. Prices stiff as quotations.

The Hickory passed up the Mississippi
from th Ohio, with a barge of hickory for
the Chester handle works.
The Nashville cleared for New Madrid
with a IL'ht trip, last evening. She takes
out an excursion party on Thursday.
The Colorado, on time and with every
body in fine spirits, passed up from Yicks-
burg for St. Louis during the morning.
Major Ed. llalliday, with his two little
daughters, hare goue to Hot Springs
They will be absent about two weeks.
Tho Belle Memphis passed up during
the afternoon. Lew Carter, formerly on
tho Ste. Genevieve, is now her second clerk
