RIVER WEATHER BUSINESS,
The wcuthcr was extremely warm, a hot
sun shining brightly during tho morning.
In the afternoon it became cloudy, and
there is every iudidation of a storm to
night. Business very dull.
The rivers are on a stand with 13 feet 2
inches on the gauge.
The Laura L. Davis passed with a nice
trip for St. Louis.
The Raven and barges and Sam Roberts
and barges are due from the Ohio.
The W. II. Johnson, litis been put into
the Cairo and Paducah trade, in place of
the James Fisk.
The Vint Shinklo passed up early yester
day morning, with a big trip of cotton, oil
and sundries, and full of people.
For New Orleans and way points to-day
h announced the Southern Transportation
Company's fine freight and passenger
steamer Paris C. Brown.
The Anchor Line has placed the Belle

The James D. Parker, of the Ohio River
and Memphis Packet company's line, and
the Golden Crown, of the Southern Trans
portation Company's fleet, leave Cincinnati
this evening. The Parker goes to Memphis
and the Golden Crown to New Orleans.
The B. S. Rhea, Captain Tyner, came in
from Nashville during the morning with a
good cargo of iron, plow material and mis
cellaneous freight and a number of people.
She unloaded and returned last evening,
with a fair share of patronage.
The new Cairo and Paducah packet
Champion No. 9 leaves Cincinnati to-day
for this port. Captian Newman is in com
mand, and Mr. Andrew Bird, of this city
comes out as her clerk. The Chamdiou is
a side wheeler, with all ot the advantages
of the best of passenger steamboats, and is
a nail-driver to run.
The Petrel, which boat that good looking
printer made us say bursted her boilers,
when we intended telling that she had
burnt her loilers, expected to get away last
evening, but had not gone away when we
left the levee. She deposited her tow where
the accident happened at the banks
near Thebes. It is made up of empty ice
The stench arising from the barge of
rata sunk at the foot rf Tenth street dur-
ine the freeze up lai-t winter, was very of
fensive on tho levee yesterday, and Health
Officer Wooten informs us that unless the
parties hired to remove the barge begin
work on it by noun to-day, the city will
take the matter in hand.
Captain Robert W. Wise's good steamer
James W. Gaff, is due from the Ohio to
day, en route to Memphis. Mr. G. Wash
Thompson is her pleasant chief clerk. It
should not be forgotten that the Gaff is
carrying passengers from Cairo to Citicin
nati, and return during the months of May
and June, for ten dollars. We make men
tion of this fact in order that any of our
Cairo folks who contemplate a trip to the
"Paris of America," may have time to pre
pare themselves for the leaving by the time
the Gaff returns. She gets here on her re
turn trip next Monday.
Whatever tcuds to diminish strength
should be removed from the system. For
those weakening diseases of babyhood

which always cures. 25 cts.
