There is little change to note in the ren
The week opens about as last week
closed. There is considerable improve
ment in the temperature, howeer, yester
day and to-day have been cool anil exceed
int'ty pleasant, after the protracted and ex
cessive heat of the past week.
FLOUK Stocks of medium and choice
continue every liyht and prices rule firm.
Low grades are plenty aud weak.
HAY The market opens a little weaker.
Receipts are larger while the demand has
fallen off leaving a surplus on hand.
C0RN"--The demand is steady for white
nnd receipts are readily taken on arrival,
for the milling demand. The supply of mix
ed is .'inple for the call.
OATS No stocks and for that reason,
MEAL The demand is brisk aud supply
about equal to it. but there is no surplus.
IlUTTER-rienty and very dull. There
is no demand except for "gilt edge."
EGGS Light supply, steady and firm
at higher figures.
POULTRY Old hens and mixed chick
ens are quiet. There is an active inquiry
for spring chickens and no receipt.
POTATOES Good demand for choice.
BERRIES Active demand for all ' re
TOBACCO Tho market is steadily
impruvng both as to quality
and receipts; prices remain about
the same with a tendency to ease up.
The crop prospects wi re never better. There
is an increasing demand for the better
quality of low grades. New buyers con
tinue to arrive and we now have i full

There is somewhat of an improvement in
business about the wharf, freight being
The weather was cloudy and cool,
throughout the day, with a clear sky and
cool atmosphere to-night.
The gauge last evening marked 17 feet, a
slight rise in 25 hours.
The Helena was due from Nashville yes
terday, but had not f ; 'Jfed at dark. She
will probably be in port this evening
Six boats at tho wharf at one time Sunday
evening. They were Andy Baum, Cham
pion, John B. Maude, Pittsburg, Arkansas
Belle and Tidal Ware. The Pittsburg dis
charged here 1,100 kegs of nails aud a lot
of miscellaneous freight. The Arkansas
Belle had as usual, a light trip;
the Champion was returninir from
her Paducah excursion trip, which,
though not largely attended, was a very
pleasant affair. The rest of the six did
little or no business to attend to The
E. O. Stanard came in from St. Louis early
in the morning, and as usual with this line
of boats, cut the rates of freight, to 10 cents
per 100. She made additions of considera
ble freight, and when this reporter left the
levee, was at the Stone depot, taking on a
lot of corn for Helena The Centennial
came from St. Louis heavily laden. She
received considerable here and expected to
get away during the night. She was flat
in the water when we took our last look at
her The Fannie Tntum passed from
Wheeling for St. Louis Sunday night, put
ting off here 500 kegs nails The City
of Helena, of the Anchor Line, is announced
for Memphis mid Vjcksburg to-day.
Captain Isaac McKec is her commander.
For Paducah this afternoon, is tho
fine side-wheel passenger steamer Champ
ion. Sho leaves at three o'clock prompt.
We arc told that the Knight Templars are
talking of a steamboat excursion to Cape
Girardeau next week The Champion
is the boat to go on Tho Golden Rule

departed for New Orleaus flat in the water.
