The Market. ,
Cajko, Ills., Monday Evemnci, )
June 23, 179. (
The weather for tho past few days lias
been damp and showery. A steady rain
set in at noon to-day and has continued
with very little intermission up to the
present writing, but the harvest is out of
the way and rain is welcome to the growing
The market is quiet in all its depart
ments and will continue so until the new
crop of wheat begins to move.
FLOUR Very quiet. Prices are weak
and unsettled. Buyers are holding off for
new wheat flour that is said to be extra
HAY Quiet and on the dull order.
Receipts are large und the demand limited.
Prices rule lower.
CORN The demand is falling off, but
receipts being light, there is no surplus and
prices are welt sustained.
OATS Nothing doing. Prices are nom
inally as quoted.
MEAL The feeling is weaker and al
though there is no overstock on the market,
prices have a downward tendency.
BUTTER Dull and unchanged: stocks
are large and the demand limited to strictly
EGG? Prices are firm, owing to scarcity
of receipts. The market is bare to-day.
POULTRY Old chickens are dull, good
spring chickens are scarce and in active re
quest. FRUIT Prices of berries have a ten
dency to advance. Receipts fall short ot
the demand and are all taken on arrival by
tae local trade.
ONIONS The new crop is coming in,
ami quoted dull at $2 00 per bbl.
POTATOES --Choice new are in demand
PROVISIONS Prices on smoked meats
of all kinds are firm and advancing.
TOBACCO There is no material change
to note in the market. Prices rule about
the same, with a firmness that signifies cau
tion as to anv advance. Illinois tobacco
has at last taken its place in the market of
the world, and to-day is in more demand
than uny tobacco produced. The Italian
Regie contract calls for, in class B. and C,
more Illinois tobacco than is produced
in the State; the manufacturers of that
country seeking it in every market. We
say "Bully for Illinois.''
