The yellow fewr excitement at Memphis,
although lasting but a short time, seemed
to act iu favor of some branches of the mar
ket here: the effect was tc send orders
in for f.our that would not hrve come had
the Memphis market been open. The ma
jority of our people are firm in the belief
that there will be no epidemic to lock the
wheels ( f trade in the Mississippy valley
again this year.
TVe have apparently passed through our
"heated term," and this week opens with a
decided improvement in the temperature
although it is still very warm.
FLOUR The market is easy and steady
with receipts end demand about equal, and
WHEAT Secady; quoted by the mills:
Xo. 2 Red 9092; No. 3 Red 68(2 90, and
White Varieties 2 cents less than Red, ot
same grade. Touyh and damp wheat is
quoted T5S5 cents.
HAY Light receipts and light demand.
A couple of cars of red top would sell to
day, but there was none in market.
CORN Steady and unchanged.
OATS None in market.
BUTTER Overstocked and dull. Only
strictly choice is called for.
EGGS The market is overstocked and
hundreds of dozens are being dumped into
CHICKENS Fair. Receipts and de
mand are about equal.
FRUIT Tomatoes arc selling at 30 to 50
per box. Blackberries are selling at 2.25
per crate with prospect of going lowor.
TOBACCO Is still very firm and re
ceipts liberal. The growing crop ii pass
ing through its "Vicissitudes" with the
chances in favot of the "vicissitudes" hence
the firmness of prices; the receipts at the
seaboard, compared with last year, is about
one-half. We look for further advances in
the near future.
