CRAZED RY FEAR. A IlKKUiKli FltOM MEMPH.S IN Til K WM.VM Of AUKK.VNSAS. From the Little P.ock 1 t.ette. Mr. J. llandlie, who has iust arrived in the city fruiii I'rittcudeu county, relates rather a sad story in regard to a woman wlio is now roatutntr around in the woods of the Mississippi river bottom. Shortly after the yellow fever appeared in Memphis, the woman, whose name is Mrs. Annie Harper, left the city, crossing in a skiff to the Arkansas shore. She lost her husbaud and two children last year, unit when the fever appeared ngnin, she Itecame wild in her manner and declared she would die uniess she lett tho city. Rut leaving an infected city is not a perfect assurance against trouble, if, it does sometimes prove a"safcguard against disease. Mrs. Harper wandered arouud in the dense torest almost crazed. The bot toms are very sparsely settled, houses in many instances being several miles apart. When the woman applied at the first house a man came out with a gun and demauiled her immediate change of scene. In vain the woman pleaded. The man explained that it was better for one person to die than to be the cause or the death of a dozen. Plodding to another house, the woman was just entering the gute when a man came out and said that coming in would be moro disastrous than a case of yellow tever. The poor woman wailed aloud, declaring that she certainly bore the "mark suniliar to that worn by Cain. At the next house a man gave lier some thing to cat, but advised her to move on. Thus she has been wanderintr around, get ting a morsel to eat hero aud being spurned there. She turned toward Memphis, but lost her way in the woods, almost tropically dense. When she went to the next house, where a Mr. Winxlson lives, she declared that she had the fever, and wanted to spread it. This of course excited the in- ' mates of the house, and the woman's hasty departure was demanded. Mr. llandlie saw the woman near Rlack fish. The womnn had been wnndering aim lessly and had at last reached the railroad. Having heard of the woman, Mr. llandlie asked her several questions. "I'm wild," the woman said. "Yellow tever is chasing me. Like a bloodhound it follows my footsteps." Then, in a quiet manner, the woman re lated her sad experience, and then, in a mo ment, she beemne wild again, and, with a wild shriek she dashed oil' into the woods. Mr. llandlie followed her, but she paid no attention to him, wildly exclaiming that she was dying with the fever. Mr." llandlie says that, from what he cau learn, Mrs. Harper belongs to a good family, and that her husband was quite a prominent plum ber and gas-fitter of Memphis. Something should be done for the woman, as to con tinue in this way will only prove to be her death or total destruction of her mind. A kop.kion gentleman said loan employe on one of our railroads: "What is Ilto next train to So-nnd-So?" "N.i. 4. sir; but she is late, because No. 15, which is just behind 11. is not going out before 10 barks up before .1. Then 22 will go out before voiir train gets in, to let IT come up on the track where 8 is." To ignore the warning of approaching disease is neither cautious nor safe. Pru dence would sugL'est the immediate use of a good preventive remedy, such as Dr. Hull's Baltimore Pills, which eradicate at once all symptoms of bilious diseases. tJCAUANTixn.
