ONLY ONE NEW CASK DISCOVERED
AT MEMPHIS YESTERDAY.
FOl'R NAMES ONLY FOCNn ON THE DEATH
Meupiuh, Sept. 14. Tbis1, the ninth
Sunday of the epidemic, has been another
excruciatingly dull day in all circles and
especially alwut the health office and
Howard rooms. Doctors complain of noth
ing to do, idle nurses arc becoming numer-
. t A
ous, snu mere is u general appearance ot a
wind-up about everything.
Rut one new case was found to-day, and
that was a colored nun Mr. Watson, in
the North Meiuohis district. Undertakers
made tour interments, all but ono whites.
There are no very serious cases reported
among people of any prominence to-night ; in
fact as far as heard from all arc doing well.
Tins day last year wan tin v:ufut vuk 111'
the history of that epidemic 127 persons
were recorded at the health office for inter
ment, and it was believed that at least
twenty more died that day. Another im
portant ileia connected with that day is
that the books of nci:hcr tho health nor
Howard officers show a single new case,
and on the day following tho new cases
numbered but about 20 or 30.
It is feared that tfie apparent cessation
ot the disease indicated in to-day's reports
will induce many refugees to return, only
to supply material for the disease to sprini
again into life upon. A physicians say
that such an influx of unaccliinated per
sons would cause a worse and more fatal
epidemic than tho past two months have
produced, the wise will remain owny. Their
anxiety to return home nud resume business
can be no greater than the dread of those
here of tho death-like dulucss and quiet to
be endured until frost comes. The weather
artist has twisted his machine tho wrong
way again, as thermometers are on tho down
grado to tho frost condition. Some predict
frost tho latter part of this month, almost
unprecedented in this latitude.

Count Rosebud, one of the midgets, is in

her winning ways and accomplishments,
and would marry her to-morrow-it. she
would consent. One head is williug, but
the other is not, and tho two heads havo
been disputing about this matter for the
last two years, It is, iu fact, about tho on

agreed. A man who would marry a woman
with two heads and subject himself to tho
raking fire from such a double-barreled gun
ns that whenever, he came homo lato nt
night might elicit ndmirIon for his valor,
but not for his dieton.
