MAN FATALLY SHOT AT MEMPHIS.
Memphis, Tenn., March 18. This morn
ing at 2 o'clock, William Sliuttleworth,
painter, residing in Irving block, was
awakened by hearing some one walking in
his bed room, and grasping a pistol, called
out, "Who is there?"' Failing to get a re

of the room, which proved to be a burglar,
who fled down stairs pursued by Sliuttle
worth, who fired two more shots at the flee
ing thief. Nothing more was heard of the
affair until this morning at 10 o'clock, when
the police were notified that Joe Costello, a
young man hailing from Bowling Green,
Ky., was suffering from a pitsol shot which
had passed clean through his right chest.
Investigation proved that he was the man
shot by Sliuttleworth and had run to his
boarding house six squares distant without
knowing the ball had struck. Costello

The sudden rise in cotton temporarily
checked tho transportation of American
cotton fabrics, but there are already to be
discovered indications of a eeneral renewal
of the trade. Tho American goods, oncr

Mrs. Wixulow'b Soothing Syrup.
Rev. Kytvanus Cobb thus writes in the Bos -ton
Christian Freeman: We would by no
means recommend any kind ot medicine
which we did not know to bo good partic
ularly for infants. But of Mrs. Wiuslow's
Soothing Syrup we can speak from knowl
edge; in our own family it has proved a
blessing indeed, by giving an infant
troubled with colic pains, quiet sleep, and
the parents unbroken rest at night. Most
parents can appreciate these blessings.
Here is an article which works to perfec
tion, and which is harmless; for the sleep
wl.ich it atlbrds the infant is perfectly nat
ural, and the little cherub awakes as
"blight as a button." And during the
process of teething, its value is incalcula
ble. We have frequently heard mothers
say that they would not be without it from
the birth of the child till it has finished
with the teething siege, on any considera
tion whatever. Sold by all druggists. 25
cents a bottle.

of a number of cures from the use of your
remedy, and after taking a few bottles of
your Safe Kidney nnd Liver cure, I was not
only relieved, but found myself cured.
