MANS REASuMXdS AM) KT THAT Wnil-
Thri'iigh your column of yesterday I
was permitted to iifk a few simple ques
tions and to-day I am imfonned l.y the
Sun, thut I can kick out of the Republican
party as toon as I please. Now, Mr. Ali
tor, I would like to have parties under
stand me. My question wan this: "If the
so called colored brethren are not permitted
to no'-;, or attempt to uos their own bal
lots, would it not be better for them if they
had cot been allowed the riht of suf
ra;'e;''' That question has not been satis
factiTily answered by the Sun. If he de
sires to dodge the question, why does he
nt say so? The Sun says that it is a poor
show of gratitude for the colored man, to
fay, ,-it we can't dictate or rule
we'll ruin." There is no foundation
lor such language in my article of th; 1 1th
in.it. Nor, in my epinion, in the colored
man's history in the Eighteenth congres
sional district of Illinois.
But on the other hand we propose to
take up the Republican banner in this dis
trict and carry it, and those who are ready
and willing to help us maylo so, but tho.e
who are not we are willing to let them fall
by the wayside or kick them across the
line. If we are to take the arguments of
the Sun aH the ideas of the white Republi
cans in tbis district, we had better humble
ourselves or prepare for 'colored Junerals,
had we not? Kickek No. 2.

One day last month when trade was dull

Caron (Nov. 1 Herald.
One of the most remarkable , things
noticeable in social life is the unanimity
with which people shake their relatives.
Receutly a German arrived in Carson with
a letter of introduction to one of our lead

the Carson itc read the letter he remarked :
"Glad to see you, sir. Glad to see any
body who knows my uncle in Cleveland.
How are all the folks?''
"Splendid. I spent six weeks there last
fall, and I don't really think I ever met
such a fine Jamily of genial, hospitable,
and cultivated people."
"Yes, indeed I never spent a pleasantcr

lived there a year, and I think they are

for the whole town of Cleveland."
"Indeed!" said the other. "Well, since
you've been so candid about it, I might as
well n-rnark right here that your uncle and
his whole family are tiie toughest collec

"Put it there, yountf man, you show
good sense. Let's go out and take some
