Our city is passing' through No. 1 of tho
hented terms booked for this summer. Tbe
last three or four duyg have been hot to ex-
cces, but cool breezes have tempered the
atmosphere and co sunstrokes or heat pros
trations here, have as yet been reported.
Basinets, as a rule, is
cry quiet. looacco snows con
siderable activity at the warehouse and
sale days are well attended. Prices ob
tained are very satisfactory all around.
FLOUR We have no improvement to

come in slowly.
IIAY Shippers are urged to hold back
low grades. The market is already over
stocked with it and no demand at any
price. Choice finds ready sale
on arrival at prices quoted.
CORN Steady and unchanged. Re
ceipts are fair and tbe demand is moderate.
OATS The demand is light and stocks
large. Trices are lower.
MEAL The demand for city meal is up
to the full capacity of the mills, but sharp
competition has reduced prices to the very
lowest point possible without actual loss.
BRAN Scarce, receipts are light, and
prices steady.
BUTTER Plenty and dull. Tbe small
demand is lor strictly choice.
EGOS We note a good demand and
light supply. Prices are firm.
CUICKENS-Choice young chickens
arc scarce and in active request. Old are
plentiful and the market is easy.
FRl'IT-All kinds of small fresh fruits
are in good demand. Strawberries are
very scarce and command ready sale at

Literary Bevolution and
Universal Knowledge
An Encyclopedia in 20 vols., over 16,000 pages; 10 per cent more matter than any
Encyclopedia ever before published in this country, and sold, handsomely and well
bound, in cloth for $10, in half morocco for f 15, and printed on fine heavy paper, wide
margins, bound in half Russia, gilt top, for f 20 an enterprise so extraordinary that iU
success, beyond all precedent in book publishing, may be fairly claimed to inaugurate a
Lttibakt Revolution.
The Library of Universal Knowledge is a reprint entire of the last (1879) Ed
inburgh tdition of "Chambers' Encyclopadia,11 with about 40 per cent of new matter
added, upon topics of Epecial interest to American readers, thus making it equal in char
acter to any similar work, better than any other suited to the wants ol the great majority
ot those who consult works of reference, and altogether the latest Encyclopedia in the
field.

Leading Principles of the AMERICAN BOOK EXCHANGE :
I. Publifb only book of real value.
II. Worknpon the bai of pretest cott of making book, abont one-half what it wa a few years ago.
III. Sell to buyer direct, and tave them tie 50 to CO per cent coromietton commonly allowed to
dealer.
IV. The coet of book when made 10,000 at a time i but a fraction of the coet when made M0 at a time
adopt the low price and ell the large quantity.
V. Vie good type, paper, etc., do careful printing, and ttrong, rcat binding, but avoid all "padding,"
fat and heavy-leaded type, tpongy paper and gaudy binding, which are to commonly retorted to to make
bokt appear large and Sue, and which greatly add to their cot t, but do not add to their value,
VI. To make fl and a friend I better than to make (5 and an enemy.
