The daysaro hot and tho nighta are cool
and pleasant. This forenoon tho Bun was
extremely hot, presaging an approaching
Btorm, that after a sweltering, cloudy after
noon culminated late in a storm of thunder,
lightning and rain.
Busiucss shows some signs of awakening
from its mid-summer sleep and merchants
wear 'more hopeful countenances. It is
thought a change for the better will come
in with September.
FLOUR The market is 6teady and the
movement moderately heavy. Prices rule
about the same as Inst week.
HAY Steady and unchanged. The
local demand requires all receipts of choice
that arrives.
CORN Both mixed and white are scarce
and firm at quotations.
OATS We note a scarcity in the market
owing to light receipts of last few days.
The demand is only moderate.
MEAL The market is quoted dull for
country meal at $2 00, holders are firm at
that price but buyers are off. City meal is
steady at quotations.
BRAN Plenty and easy at all quota
tions.' BUTTER Choice is scarce and in
active request at out side quota
tions. EGGS Receipts of fresh are taken on
arrival and the market rules firm.
CHICKENS The market is lair and
supply and demand about equal.
POTATOES Dull and unchanged.
PEACHES Choice finds ready sale on
arrival.
PEARS Choice ripe Bartlett's sell read
ily at 5060 ct. per box.
GRAPES Ileceipt3 find ready sale at
prices according to quality 2J to 5 cents.

The Colorado ran through her larboard
engine, and passed up Sunday night on one
wheel.
The John B. Maude will be here to
night for Memphis.
The Anchor line, ever ready to accom
modate their patrons, have concluded to
put in three boats per week to Memphis;
leaving here Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sat
urdays, consisting of the Colorado, Ste.
Genevieve and John B. Maude.
The Gus Fowler brought down a big
instalment of Knights Templar, Sunday,
destined for the great Chicago reunion.
She was well supplied with music.
The Ohio river packet Golden City
jfhould be out to-day from St. Louis in the
Anchor line, for New Orleans, followed by
the Chouteau, Guiding Star and W.P. Hal
liday.
The T. T. Ilillman leaves to-day for
Tiptonville, being the maiden trip in a
trade which Camp. Ambrose has decided to
try for the Benson. Frank Redman is the
Hillman's clerk.
The Will Kyle added about a thousand
tons here.
The Gold Dust passed up late last
night for St. Louis.
The Alphabetical Kehlor will be found
at the wharf this evening. Capt. Kineber
is in command. She will fill out here.
The Grand Tower had all she could
tote on tho water, for Vicksburg.
The Ste. Genevieve did not arrive until
late Sunday morning. She made light ad;
ditions for Memphis. 1
The Marine Journal of last week,
devoted its editorial attention to the
wharfage system at Cairo, and demands the
repeal.
Louisville has reduced its wharfage
tax to f 2 00 per 24 hours, and one dollar for
every additional day. Will S. Hayes and
the C.-J. is credited with forcing the reduc
tion. Stage of river 11 feet, 2 inches; a fall
of 4 inches in the past 24 hours.
