the Helena yesterday, from Winlield, la.,

Charley Ipy arrived in town yester
day to assume charge of the Mississippi
Valhy Transportation Company's interest

who left for New York YVednesday. Char
lie's many friends here cordially welcome
his return tu the Egyptian capital.
The Jas. W. GalTcauiein yesterday morn
ing, towing several barges. She trantfeired
her freight here and got away about five
o'clock yesterday. Captain Wise was un
der the impression that he would lay up at
Memphis, although he might return to this
point and quit. It all depends upon the
Capt. Bob Riley writes from Riley's in
let, under date of 10th, inst., as follows:
"If you can engage old Two Dollars besides
to come down and play a short engagement
at a liberal percentage, why send bim
along. Did you send any body along to
take care of Sol. Silver? If not get the Bell
man ready." The gentlemen in question

our impression is that Mr. Two-Dollars
besides can not do better than arrange with
him for an early appearance at the inlet.
As Capt. Silver has returned, the probabili
ty is that he secured a guardian before he

The weather is warm and the days are
sunny and pleasant for the season.
The tall trade does not seem to have
yet fairly opened, and there is very little
activity in the market, Hour, of all staple
commodities, being about the only one that
is auy more than holding its own against
the transactions of last year.
The river is Jailing slowly, but there is
an ubundauce of water for the largest cratts
to all points on the Mississippi.
FLOUR The market is stiff aud prices
still have an upward tendency. Re
ceipts are fair, and are mostly of the choice
IIAY Common is in good supply.
Choice is in fair demand and a little
CORN Receipts and demand nrc both
light. White is quoted a little off to
day, and 42c in bulk is considered a full
OATS Plenty aud easy. Trices are
weak, but are nominally unchanged.
MEAIi There is very little movement.
Prices are firm on city meal, which is the
only kind selling,
BRAN The market is bare. The mills
hold all the stocks, and prices aro firm at
BUTTER The market is overstocked,
and sales are slow. Prices are shaded on
choice, and common is not wanted at any
EGGS Plenty and weak at quotations.
POULTRY Chickens are overstocked,
and very dull at lower prices.
APPLES The' demand is limited to
choice varieties and is very light. Wine
saps are not called for any at price.
POTATOES No stocks and no demand.
