TiiEneiceofthopoct Heine, ftio Prin

Italian a volume of "Souvenirs of tho Pri

Francis Poweks Cobue, in her latest
volume, says : "When women of my age
look back on tlie state of things, which
prevailed in our youth, we seem to have
passed under new dispensation. Only
seventeen years Bgo, I myself read a news

Congress, pleading for tho admission of
women to university degrees; and every
newspaper in London laughed at me (nota

on a deputation to Lord Granville to thank
him for this very admission of women to

The art of engraving originated in some
experiments of Maso Finiguerra, a Floren

He was an artist who engraved on silver
plate, and being desirous of preserving im
pressions of his engravings, he took casts
in clay and produced impressions of these
by a roller in liquid sulphur, and some
times on damp paper. Then by engraving
in reverse he got impressions on paper the
right way of the original. Block print

and much resembled the contrivance of the

The combat between the Iloratii and

King of Rome was chosen successor of
Numa, and carried on a vigorous war
against Alba, a .neighboring city; but as
the belligerent proceedings were productive
only of the useless extermination ot the
people of both sides, they agreed to decide
their differences by a combat, which should
take place between three individuals, chos
en on either side. The Romans in conse
quence elected three brothers named the
Iloratii, and the Albina a like number from
the family called the Curiatti. Two of the
former, during the contest,, fell mortally
wounded, while the third, who had escap
ed unhurt, pretended to fly, and turning
around at intervals upon bis opponents,
successively killed the Curiatti. Albi was
destroyed three years after, when the inhab
itants established themselves at Rome.
