Monday Evening, Jan. 23, 1882.
The. weather is bright and clear but
freezing; cold. After several day of soft
weather, meltinpf bdow, iluh and muaj tne
ground froze solid Saturday night and al
though it thawed to-day, in tho sun, will
freczo again to-night.
Tiie rivers continuo to swell slowly and
are now nearly as hifih as they ever coino
at this point.'but a decline, or at least a
stand still will bo reached soon and there is
no reason to fear' any damago in Cairo
from the, flood but the country round about
us is all inundated.
FLOUH The market opens firm this
week with an advance of 25c in price.
Kcceipts for a few days have been light
owing to bad reads in tlie'country. Trans
actions are not heavy.
HAY All attempts to develop a market
for low grade hay is a failure; there is no
demand at all foi it. Receipts have been
large, of all kinds, at least 40 cars being
on track to day. Choice hay finds a fair
market at quotations.
CORN Receipts are liberal and the do
maud has boen good but the order trade
will probably fall off for a short while
owing to the high.water south interfering
with running trains.
OATS Receipts are largo and the de
mand light. Trices are Aim as quoted.
MEAL Steady demand and firm at quo
tations. BRAN None offering on consignment.
BUTTER The demand is entirely far
EGGS Stocks are light and tho demand
fair. Prices will bo good as long as the
cold weather lasts.
CHICKENS -Tho demand is active and
the market unsupplied.
APPLES-Light supply and good de
mand. POTATOES Choice table and seed po
tatoes aro scarce and in active demand.
Sales and Quotations.
NOTK. The prlcen nere given are for sales from
