The steamers Enquirer and Dora Cabler
collided last Wednesday night at 9 o'clock,
short distance above ,Lewiport. The
Dora Ctbler sunk in a few minutes and
caught fire, burning all her upper works.
Several lives are supposed to have4been
lost. The Cabler was . insured foi . $3,600
and was valued at $10,000. She had a fine
trip on board. Her loss will be greatly
regretted by the people along the shores in
theliueshc so satisfactorily represented.
Th magnificent steamer Guiding Star
s due this morning for New Orleans. The
Star is the finest boat of the Big O. Line
and her officers are all "sterling fellows."
Capt. J. I). Hegler one of the best steam-
boatmen that ever had command of a west
ern craft is still on board. She leaves for
New Orleans to-night.
The Will 8. Hays passed up yesti rdsy
morning at G o'clock. , She wss just 9
hours behind the Springer, and from the
gait she was going she had a fine chance
of "taking the Reuben Byrnes in."
The W. II. Cherry from Nashville arrived
at 4 a. id. yesterday. She had a good trip,
discharged 100 tons of iron for St. Louis
and left on her return trip at 10 a. m.
The City of New Orleans arrived last
evening from St. Louis and departed for
he lower Mississippi about 11 o'clock.
She had a fine trip.
The Gu Fowler was late in getting off
last night as she had some repairs to make.
She departed at 7:30 but will be on time
to-day us usual.
The Centennial from New Orleans
passed up for St. Louis yesterday at 1 p.
m. She only stopped here to coal and left
at 1 -30 p. m.
The Cons Millar from Cincinnati is due
to-day fur Memphis. Capt. J. D. Moore in
command and J as. Voris in the office.
The City of Cairo from St. Louis arrived
last night at 8 o'clock. She departs for
Vicksburg early this morning.
The Henry A.Tyler leaves at 10 a.m. for
New Madrid. W. J. Turner master and
Lem Hill clerk.
The Andy Baum from Memphis is due
to-morrow evening for Cinclunati.
The Belle Memphis leaves St. Louis
this evening for Vicksburg.
The Arkansas City from Vicksburg is
due this morning for St, Louis.
The Hudson for St. Louis is due to
