It is now the general opiuion that the
Will 9. Hays is the fastest steamboat ex
cept the J. M. White, which has more
power that leaves New Orleans or any
where else. She is certainly n ) hearse or
the hind hack in the funeral procession.
The Ohio from Cincinnati will arrive this
morning and receive freight and passengers
for Memphis and intermediate points. Capt.
C. B. Russull in command and Mr. Jos.

The City of St. Louis arrived here last
evening with a fine freight trip and a cabin
full of passengers. We took a careful sur
vey of this msguiricient steamer and can
safely s ty that the Howard's of JefTerson-
ville who have a wide world reputation for
being the champion steamboat builder's of
Western and Southern steamers, have
reached the height of perfection in building
the City of St. Lonis. She is a paragon of
eicellence and beauty and from her bottom
plank to the top of her towering chimneys
she is perfect and complete. Space forbids
further comment, but to prove our asser
tions in no manner overdrawn, go and see
for yourself. She leaves this morning early
for the freat southern metropolis.
The Ella Kimbrougb arrived here from
St. Louis last evening at 4:30. She had a
good trip and leaves here this morning for
St. Louis at $ ;30. Wc are pleased to state
that Capt. Kimbrough is making money
with his nice little packet and is meeting
with much encouragement at all landings
between Cairo and the Future Great.
The Vint Sbinkle left Memphis last even
ing for Cincinnati and is due here to-mor
The Hudson from St. Imis is due here
The Henry A. Tyler leaves here this
morning at 11 o'clock sharp for Columbus,
Hickman and New Madrid. She is a little
darling and runs on schedule. Remember
the hour of departure.
The City of Providence from Vicksburg
is on her way up tor St. Louis with a light
trip and will report here this morning.
The Paris C. Brown for New Orleans is
due here to-morrow morning for Cincin

Capt. Jim Nellis made a flying trip to
New Oi leaus this week and re turned borne
via rail Thursday evening.
The old Fannie Tatum was sold in New
Orleans the other day by the U. 9. mtrehal

dollars, which was a big price for her.
